The VMware Cloud Engineer is a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customers via the phone, ticketing system, and automation. The engineer is responsible for managing, configuring, and optimizing VMware virtual infrastructure to ensure high availability, security, and performance of enterprise systems for internal and external customers on multiple platforms. This role involves deploying and maintaining virtual machines, managing vSphere environments, performing upgrades, troubleshooting issues, and supporting disaster recovery initiatives.

Career Level Summary
Independently manages VMware environments, handles performance tuning, participates in migrations/upgrades, and coordinates with cross-functional teams.
Scheduling the VMware maintenance activities as per agreed customer window.
Working on tickets and customer calls to troubleshoot the issue and resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Being a team member for Vmware Cloud Engineer; resolving customer issues, working in collaboration with partners across the business, as required.
Install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, and vCenter Server environments.
Working on VMware Cloud Foundation and VMware NSX environment for patching and troubleshooting scenarios.
Monitor virtual infrastructure performance, capacity, and availability using VMware native tools and third-party monitoring solutions.
Manage VM provisioning, migration (vMotion), cloning, snapshots, and storage configurations.
Apply patches, updates, and security hardening to VMware infrastructure.
Troubleshoot virtualization-related issues, working with cross-functional teams for resolution.
Implement disaster recovery solutions for virtualized environments (e.g., Zerto, VCDA, Site Recovery Manager).
Maintain documentation of VMware configurations, standard operating procedures.
Ensure compliance with IT security policies, licensing requirements, and industry best practices.
Support integration with SAN/NAS storage systems, networking, and cloud-based virtualization solutions.
Collaborate with Account Managers and Lead Techs to provide fanatical customer support
Collaborate and share knowledge with other Engineers on the support floor
Required Skills & Knowledge
3–5 years of hands-on experience on VMware administration.
Strong knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and related technologies.
Hands on experience with VMware Cloud Foundation, VMware NSX and Zerto will be an added advantage.
Exposure to monitoring and reporting platforms (Aria Operations)
Familiarity with Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems in virtualized environments.
Understanding of networking concepts (VLANs, Port Group Creation, virtual switches, NIC teaming).
Experience in performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
Good knowledge and understanding of fiber channel SANS, NFS and vSAN
Good working knowledge and understanding of HP/DELL Server hardware platforms.
Good understanding and knowledge/troubleshooting of Disaster Recovery technologies (e.g. ZERTO, VCDA, SRM).
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Experience / Education
3-5 years related technical experience in administration with VMWare, including a minimum of 2 years’ experience equivalent to a VMware Cloud Engineer.
Experience with Vmware administration, vSphere life cycle management, disaster recovery tools.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
