Within our Research Microscopy Solutions business there is currently an excellent opportunity for the right person to join our Service Team based in Melbourne, Victoria.  This role is responsible for the installation, regular maintenance, repair and technical support of ZEISS equipment and associated third party products as well as creating new business opportunities with the delivery of a consistently high level of customer service. Reporting directly to the Head of Service, the successful applicant will have experience working with precision scientific equipment and a high level of computer literacy. The Service Engineer – Light and Laser Scanning Microscopy will primarily support our customer base in Victoria but will occasionally be required to travel interstate.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Conduct pre-installation site inspections and consult customers on installation requirements
  • Install ZEISS microscope systems, conduct acceptance testing and provide user training
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on systems to ensure highest performance standards and maximum uptime of instruments
  • Diagnose and repair all designated products within an assigned service territory as per specific training, manuals and guidelines
  • Provide qualified technical support to users of ZEISS microscopes in academic and industrial markets
  • Train customers on the use and application of confocal laser scanning microscopes and other high-end imaging systems
  • Engage with other team members locally as well as with support functions in head-quarter organisation on specific technical topics
  • Attend training courses locally and in our international support centres (Germany, China, USA)
  • Maintain company-issued test equipment and support tools, including spare parts
  • Interface with customers in a professional, pleasant and calm demeanour
  • Install and provide equipment maintenance at trade shows
  • Be self-motivated and work autonomously to ensure efficient customer support and promote the company's reputation in the market

Key skills required for this role include:

  • Formal qualification in the Electronic, Engineering, Physics, Life Science or related field
  • Previous experience servicing or working with precision scientific equipment would be beneficial
  • Experience in light microscopy as a user or technical role preferred
  • Strong awareness in PC supported instrument diagnostics would be an advantage
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work unsupervised and a high level of personal motivation
  • Willingness to travel within the territory as well as interstate when required
  • A current driver license
