UGL Utilities Operations & Maintenance business is a trusted provider of essential services across power, water, and gas sectors. With a strong reputation and long-standing contracts in power distribution, transmission, and water operations and maintenance, we are poised for significant growth. A new position has arisen for a HSE Operations Manager to be responsible and accountable for providing direction and support for all health and safety matters for utilities programs and projects Australia wide.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the GM of Utilities Operations and Maintenance and as senior member of the leadership team, the HSE Operations Manager is focused on the provision of advice and support to the line of business, with a strong focus on driving improvements in health and safety and environmental performance by leveraging UGL’s HSE Strategy, HSE Management System, Assurance Program, and One HSE Culture Program.
There is flexibility for this position to be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of the HSEQ strategy in alignment with the overall Utilities Operations and Maintenance business strategy.
Attract, lead, and coach a team of HSE professionals.
Actively engage the leadership and site/project teams to discuss how HSE outcomes are being achieved and assist with addressing gaps where identified.
Monitor and report on achievement of HSE KPIs for the business working with the leadership team to address any identified deficiencies.
Monitor alignment with legal and client obligations, providing advice to the leadership team and sites/projects on changes or emerging trends that could impact the successful delivery of work.
Respond to business development opportunities, including involvement in tender responses and gate processes to embed HSE expectations early in the project lifecycle.
Ideal attributes

Degree qualified in HSE, or related field
Minimum 10 years’ experience in HSE management in a high-risk industry, and experience in leading a HSE team
Lead Auditor qualification, or equivalent.
Incident investigation trained to a senior level (preferably ICAM) and/or experience in leading significant incident investigations.
Preference for thorough knowledge of AS 4801, ISO 9001 / 14001, ISO 31000 Federal Safety Commissioner (FSC) requirements.
Demonstrated capability in implementing HSE improvement programs/strategies.
Solid Influencing skills and the ability to achieve outcomes in an environment of managing complex stakeholder relationships, including key business partners.
