Job Title:           Automotive Parts Specialist

Department:  Fleet Services

Pay Grade:       Uniform Salary Grade U090

Work Calendar:           All 12 Month Staff

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Fleet Services, the Automotive Parts Specialists procures and issues parts and shop supplies for a wide variety of automotive, truck and other equipment.  Additional responsibilities include maintaining a computerized parts inventory and performing daily-computerized parts entry into the repair order billing system.

 

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Inventory Control

  • Maintains running inventory of parts to determine continuing needs and assure availability.
  • Orders, receives, prices store and issue parts, materials and supplies.
  • Picks up or secure delivery of parts, supplies and materials.
  • Maintains a computer parts inventory and repair order billing system.
  • Works closely with vendors.
  • Maintains tire inventory.
  • Answers phone and performs basic clerical duties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • High School diploma, G.E.D. or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. (Virginia commercial driver’s license preferred.)

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to the roadway; near moving mechanical parts and traffic; and in confined spaces. The employee is exposed to fumes, dirt/dust, gases, and the risk of electric shock and will be provided safety equipment.
  • The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: feeling, grasping, handling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.
