Job Summary Rock Valley seeks a dynamic and passionate full-time Instructor of English Composition to join our Communications and Humanities Divisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in English composition, fostering a positive learning environment, and engaging students in the development of their writing skills. This position is ideal for individuals dedicated to promoting academic excellence and student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
Meet classes at assigned times.
Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.
Maintain student records.
Evaluate student progress and assign grades.
Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed.
Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
Maintain office hours convenient for students.
Prepare course/class reports as required.
Attend and participate in conferences related to teaching area; membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate.
Assist in student learning outcomes assessment at the course, program, and institution level.
Assist in short-range and long-range planning.
Demonstrate lifelong learning through the reading of latest research and journal articles.
Attendance and participation in conferences related to teaching area and membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any and policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.

Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in English with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of English composition theories and practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to engage and inspire a diverse student population.
Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems.
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in classroom, lab classroom, and office settings.
