Description: The Danbury Public School District maintains a Centralized Registration location for all newly entering students, which operates year round from the Family and Community Engagement Center, currently located at Osborne Street. Language testing administered by qualified testers is scheduled for identified incoming students as an integral part of the student registration process. This test examiner position is primarily responsible for determining if a student is an English Learner (EL), including administering and scoring the initial English Proficiency Assessment for all K-12 students newly registering in the Danbury Public Schools through the Central Registration Center. The test examiner will be responsible for reviewing school transcripts and seeking previous English proficiency testing records for students who are entering the district from a district within the US. Where possible, this position also will allow expansion of responsibilities into the areas of community outreach, including providing information through written materials and information sessions to community groups on the operation of the ESL Center, as well as on the registration and orientation process.
Responsibilities Include:
Create and maintain an English Proficiency Assessment appointment calendar with registrars.
Administer the English Proficiency Assessment, score and enter assessment data and communicate results to students' assigned schools.
Adhere to the CSDE “Home Language Survey Guidelines” and steps in order to determine eligibility for language support services and make appropriate initial placement recommendations
Conduct one-on-one meetings to inform parents/guardians of the results of language assessment and of the language support services available for that child and offer the opt-in option to the service that the students will receive
Maintain accurate student test records and preserve student confidentiality
Verify and comply with district, state, and federal registration laws
Coordinate with the Coordinator of ESL/ESL Center Director and ESL Department Heads regarding individual and aggregate initial testing data from the Registration Center
Create and distribute reports regarding incoming enrollments, including managing incoming enrollment data for reporting
Participate in and provide training on the administration and scoring of the English Proficiency Assessment, including training conducted by software provider in all aspects of use
Community Outreach: As time permits, act as liaison between parents, community members, and the ESL Center, trouble shoot registration questions, provide information regarding initial orientation of students to the school District, assist with mailings and written materials regarding registration and information sessions.

Support functions of Central Registration Center Registrars as directed.
Complete additional related projects as may be directed by the Coordinator of ESL Services and ESL Center Director
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) best practices
Familiarity with Connecticut’s English Proficiency Assessment
Bachelors Degree
Fluency in Portuguese Required
Experience with PowerSchool or similar District Student Data Management System preferred
Experience working with non-English speaking parents and students in a public school setting

Follows all program protocols and guidelines established by the ELL & World Language Coordinator
Reports to the Chief of Strategy & Operations and/or Central Registration Coordinator for daily operational responsibilities in the Center.
Working Conditions:
Exempt, non-union position
Part-time work during the regular school year.
Up to 35 hours/week with wages at $22/hour
On call, as needed.
