Purpose:
Responsible for daily activities of the facility’s EH&S department. Reports to the Health and Safety Group Leader. The scope of practice includes, but is not limited to, health assessments of employees, appropriate record keeping, disability case management, health promotion activities, training, corrective action, drug & alcohol testing, annual action plan development and execution, medical surveillance and interventions related to occupational hazards.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with management in developing objectives for the employee health services compatible with the company’s corporate goals and objectives.
- Provides support to a 24/7/365 manufacturing operation with initial assessment to ensure appropriate emergency care for employee’s injuries and illnesses. Provides treatment according to established protocols and refers appropriately.
- Documents nursing care and medical management to assist evaluation of the total health care provided to employees. Maintain employee health records in a safe confidential manner in accordance with the company’s and government standards.
- Collaborates with other members of the EH&S team in developing approaches to resolution of problems affecting employee health.
- Assists in the management of the drug and alcohol program by performing pre-employment, post incident and for cause testing in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Reviews pre-employment and work physical assessments to identify conditions which may affect the workers ability to perform the job and refers appropriately.
- Administration of an effective comprehensive disability management program for occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries including a return-to-work program. Complies with Pilkington NA, Inc. CM guidelines and ADA and FMLA.
- Conducts training as needed to maintain alignment with EH&S training requirements.
- Ensures that appropriate medical surveillance programs, including hearing conservation and respiratory program, are carried out in accordance with Pilkington NA, Inc and government standards.
- Orders and maintains supplies and equipment within the Medical Dept. consistent with the needs of the occupational health program in a cost-effective manner.
- Assists in management of Pilkington North America, Inc. – OBWC self- insured Worker’s Compensation Program.
- Provides case management of the Workers Comp and Non-occupational case program to assure optimal treatment and rehabilitation, and expedites the employee’s return to work. This will include periodic updates to the Management Leadership Team.
- Documents nursing care and medical management to assist evaluation of the total health care provided to employees. Maintain employee health records in a safe confidential manner in accordance with the company’s and government standards and HIPPA.
- Maintains the OSHA 300 log according to government regulations. Compiles data related to employee’s injuries and illnesses. Completes reports and communicates data to appropriate personnel and maintains the site Corrective Action Log and AVA-Airsweb incident recordkeeping process .
- Effectively represents the occupational health dept. to management, employees, and outside agencies. Establishes and promotes collaborative relationships with essential community resources, including consulting physicians.
- Monitors and maintains the medical equipment and supplies (i.e. AED, eye wash stations, first aid kits) necessary for safety purposes are available and stocked within the plant.
- Development and implementation of Wellness programs based on appropriate risk profiles, needs, and assessments.
- Provides health education and counseling to employees regarding acute and chronic health problems with the scope of nursing practice.
- Coordinates the Prescription Safety glass and Safety Shoe programs.
- Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications Required:
- Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- Certified in CPR, Audiometric testing, and Respiratory fit testing. NIOSH trained in spirometry. Certified as a Breath Alcohol Technician Trained in MSDS and bloodborne pathogens.
- Efficient in problem solving, independent nursing judgment, communication and decision making.
- Efficient with Windows based computer software, Workplace Integra, AVA-Airsweb, viaOne – Sedgwick.
Qualifications Desired:
- Experience in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental and Health/Workers Compensation
- 2 plus years’ experience in coordinating Health & Safety activities
- Background and knowledge in OSHA compliance; familiarity with Code of Federal Regulations- Labor
- 2 plus years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
