About the Department

Under general supervision, develops, implements, and monitors water conservation programs for residential and non-residential customers; performs various compliance inspections and water consultations. Exercises no supervision. 

Position Duties

Examples of Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implements, monitors, reviews, and participates in a variety of customer service and conservation related activities;
  • Identifies conservation program tasks needed to assist with grant program development and related activities;
  • Assists in the coordination, development, and delivery of conservation programs and training with staff, consultants, and other agencies;
  • Participates in auditing and enforcing conservation programs and ordinances;
  • Conducts water audits, investigations, and inspections for residential, commercial, and industrial customers;
  • Responds to customer inquiries and provides recommendations on water usage and conservation techniques, equipment improvements, and other methods of achieving efficient water use;
  • Maintains a variety of records and files to assist with the preparation of correspondence and reports; prepares and submits required reports;
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates participation in community outreach events; 
  • Maintains awareness of new developments in the field of water conservation, including technologies and techniques; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • One year of experience in customer service and water conservation programs.

Education:

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • College level coursework in Business, Public Administration, Environmental Science, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field is desired.  For degrees or college level coursework obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required. 
License or Certificate:
  • Possession of a Water Use Efficiency Practitioner Grade 1 certification, or the ability to obtain within one year; and
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Special Qualifications;
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment and use standard office equipment; 
  • Ability to travel to different sites and locations;
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, sit, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; 
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull; and
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
