Hours:  Monday-Thursday, 3:30 or 4:15 pm - 8:15 pm, up to 20 hours/week


Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Liquor Store Manager, the sales associate provides exceptional customer service while performing all sales functions, to include cash register transactions, stocking coolers and shelves, balancing sales receipts, and general custodial duties. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older. 
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. 
  • Must be a United States citizen. This position does not support sponsorship.
  • Availability to work all shifts, including days, evenings, holidays, weekends. Requires availability during HOBO week. 
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry heavy objects, and perform tasks such as stocking shelves and moving inventory. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to provide excellent customer service. 
  • Ability to accurately process transactions and check identification. 
  • Honesty and integrity in handling financial transactions and adhering to legal regulations regarding the sale of alcohol. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of the different types of liquor, beer, wine, and related products, or willingness to learn about them. 
  • Prior experience handling cash and operating a point-of-sale (POS) system. 

Major Duties

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, answering questions about products, making recommendations, and providing information on promotions or specials. 
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the store’s inventory, including different types of liquor, wine, beer, and related products. Stay informed about new arrivals, seasonal offerings, and industrial trends. 
  • Proactively engage customers to increase sales by suggesting complementary products, and promoting deals or promotions. 
  • Process transactions accurately using a point-of-sale (POS) system, handling cash, credit, and debit card payments. Maintain proper cash handling procedures and reconcile cash register at the end of each shift. 
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations by checking identification to verify the age of customers purchasing alcohol, refusing sales to underage individuals, and reporting any suspicious behavior. 
  • Assist with receiving deliveries, stocking shelves, and rotating merchandise to maintain freshness and minimize waste. Assist with restocking as needed. 
  • Keep the store clean, organized, and visually appealing by regularly tidying shelves, dusting displays, and removing empty boxes or packaging. Monitor and report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to management. 
  • Monitor customer behavior to prevent overconsumption and ensure a safe shopping environment. Intervene when necessary to refuse service to intoxicated individuals. 
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the sale of alcoholic beverages, including age restrictions, licensing requirements, and sales limits. Stay updated on changes to regulations and company policies. 
  • Collaborate with coworkers to achieve sales goals, assist with tasks as needed, and contribute to a positive work environment. Communicate effectively with management and fellow associates to address issues or concerns promptly. 
  • Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Work Environment 

  • Standing for extended periods while assisting customers, stocking shelves, and performing other tasks. 
  • Lifting and carrying cases of beverages, kegs, or other heavy items to restock shelves or assist customers with purchases. 
  • Bending and stooping to retrieve products from lower shelves or to clean and organize merchandise displays. 
  • Reaching or stretching to access products or other items. 
  • Pushing or pulling carts loaded with merchandise for restocking or transporting items within the store. 
  • Manual dexterity for operating a cash register, handling bottles and packaging, and arranging merchandise. 
  • Repetitive motions such as scanning items or entering data into a computerized system, and other repetitive tasks. 
  • Overall, this position requires moderate physical activity throughout the shift, including walking, standing, lifting, and moving objects.

  • Comprehensive understanding of alcoholic beverages, new products, and trends. 
  • Decision-making and reasoning to respond to customer inquiries.

  • Time management skills to manage multiple tasks, such as customer service, stocking, and custodial duties. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a team and communicate effectively with manager and coworkers and customers.
