SUMMARY: The Maintenance Apprentice is responsible for gaining comprehensive hands-on training in installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of complex machinery and electrical equipment; promoting teamwork through behavior, acting in accordance with Altek’s Policies and adhering to the goals and expectations defined by management. Pay is DOE.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Learns to install, maintain, repair, and rebuild a wide range of complex machine tools, special-purpose machines, and plant equipment including automated and assembly machinery to ensure product quality and cost efficiency
- Learns to diagnose issues, disassemble equipment, and assess the extent of necessary repairs
- Learns to repair, refit, or replace components using high-quality replacement parts
- Learns to select materials and plan and execute advanced machining operations
- Learns to layout, install, and maintain diverse electrical equipment including motors, motor-generator sets, rectifiers, transformers, process controls, relays, circuit breakers, and electronic devices
- Learns to install power, lighting, electronic, and control circuits and related apparatus
- Learns to prioritize tasks and equipment failures while coordinating and performing preventive maintenance
- Learns fabrication and welding techniques
- Attends all training and classes necessary to expand knowledge, skills, and experience as directed for departmental growth
- Builds and maintains positive rapport with other Altek employees, customers and/or suppliers
- Exhibits positive communication and behavior skills
- Adapts and modifies as circumstances warrant
- Demonstrates safe work habits

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED
- AA degree preferred
- Mold press experience preferred
- CNC Machine Tool experience preferred
- Electrical/hydraulic/mechanical experience preferred
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics and technical manuals
- Good documentation skills
- Intermediate writing skills
- Ability to work independently, take initiative
- Ability to manage workload and changing priorities
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow directions
- Physically able to meet all the requirements of the position
- Ability to use various hand and power tools
- Certified or willingness to be certified to operate a fork lift
