Role Overview
The Marketing Manager will lead the planning and execution of marketing efforts for the Portland Mercury, ensuring our print issues, events, and brand activations are effectively promoted across multiple platforms. This role blends creative campaign-building with hands-on execution and cross-department collaboration. The Marketing Manager will also be responsible for driving the Mercury’s brand visibility and recognition through large-scale general marketing campaigns.


Key Responsibilities

Promotions and Events

  • Develop and execute marketing plans for all print issues and digital features.
  • Manage promotional assets with production, including print, social media, posters, newsletters, and digital campaigns.
  • Strategize and execute promotion opportunities with external partners and sponsors.
  • Produce all Mercury community events including launch parties, B2B events, and sponsor activations. 
  • Collaborate with and support the Noisy Creek events team on large scale events.

General Marketing of the Portland Mercury

  • Lead annual brand campaigns (e.g., "We’ve Got Your Back") to build visibility and reinforce brand values.
  • Produce both year-long and one-off campaigns for general brand recognition.
    • Work with the Art Director to produce artwork and CTAs.
    • Manage large-scale promotions through radio, billboard, transit, postering, and other out-of-home channels; report on ROI and effectiveness.
    • Coordinate newsletter branding for the Portland Mercury and EverOut.
    • Create additional promotional assets for sub-brands (TFAJ, newsletters, columns, etc.) across digital, social, print, and OOH advertising.

Merchandise & Audience Engagement

  • Build out and manage merchandise inventory with fulfillment. 
  • Identify and execute collaboration opportunities with aligned artists and brands.
  • Leverage brand merchandise to deepen audience engagement and grow revenue streams. 

Sales Department Support

  • Work closely with the publisher and sales team to promote sales opportunities.
  • Build sales materials like media kits and one-sheets.
  • Create and execute marketing campaigns for Mercury promotional weeks like Burger Week, Pizza Week, etc.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of marketing experience, ideally in media, publishing, or lifestyle brands.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute integrated campaigns across digital, print, and experiential.
  • Strong understanding of analytics, metrics, and marketing performance tools.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to write copy, pitch ideas, and present results.
  • Proficiency in platforms like Google Analytics, Mailchimp (or similar email marketing), Meta Business Suite, and basic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite a plus).
  • Knowledge of Portland’s arts, culture, and business community strongly preferred.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working in a small but high-impact team.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule (both in-office and remote). Typical work hours are Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM with occasional nights and weekends.
