We are seeking a Consultant for our ESG and Reporting team in Australia focused on guiding clients on their voluntary and mandatory sustainability journeys. The scope here is diverse, ranging from ESG double materiality assessments to human rights due diligence, to sustainability strategies, to helping entities comply with the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standard (ASRS) Standard 1 and 2 (AASB S1 and S2), and more. Preferred skills sought are consulting fundamentals and the ability to conduct gap assessments against ASRS and familiarity with double materiality assessments.  
This role can be located in or nearby Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, or Brisbane and can be partially hybrid (we are happy for the team to work from home several days / week).  

Key Responsibilities

Client & Project Delivery  
  • Project Delivery– supporting the delivery of agreed consulting engagements / projects on time, on budget, and to high standards of quality. 
  • Technical Analysis - supporting project work and providing expert viewpoint and quality assurance on deliverables as needed. 
  • Client Relationship Building – supporting the team with building the confidence and trust of client teams and representing our direct clients’ interests effectively inside their organisations. 
  • Deliverable Drafting & Presentation – preparing and delivering high quality reports, presentations, and sometimes workshops in line with project scope. 
Organisational & Personal Development  
  • Training & Personal Development – periodically learning new sustainability related skills and services, using the ACE (Anthesis Centre of Excellence) learning and development platform and guided by your line manager. 
  • Strategic & Organisational Initiatives – contributing to important internal initiatives, proposition development, and innovation of our services and capabilities to make Anthesis a more impactful driver of change. 
  • Encouraged to get involved in various impactful groups and activities within the business, like our Reconciliation Action Plan, Climate Active re-certification, or corporate SBTi initiatives.  

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Required and Relevant Position Skills 
We believe that great contributors can come from various backgrounds, and we welcome those shifting into the sustainability space from adjacent fields. At this level and for this role, we have some skills we consider as required, and others we list as relevant or useful to have. However, you may have other skills you consider relevant, we are open to ideas: 
Required Skills & Experience  
  • A degree/relevant qualification in a related field (sustainability/climate change, environmental science, business, engineering, finance, governance/policy, etc.) 
  • An understanding of various sustainability advisory fundamentals, such as double materiality assessments, ESG strategy setting, ESG reporting, human rights, climate risk, or others.   
  • A passion for sustainability and an interest in being at the forefront of guiding corporate transition to a more sustainable economy. 
  • Curious, open minded and enthusiastic with clear ability to collaborate and work well with a wide range of people on a global basis.  
  • Good communication skills to work in with the team, ask for help when required and to work independently.  
  • Familiarity with various mandatory and voluntary reporting frameworks such as GRI, ASRS AASB S2, SASB, UNGPs, or other related ESG standards. 
  • Drafting reports and presentations that convey key messages, inform strategic decision-making and deliver impact-led conclusions. 
  • Ability to analyse, write about, and advise upon economic, regulatory, and sustainability-related subjects. 
  • Ability to respond positively to pressure and take a flexible approach to the dynamic, fast moving sustainability reporting sector.  
  • Strong working familiarity with MS Office Suite is required, with high levels of numeracy and good Excel programming and workbook skills preferred. 
Relevant Skills & Experience  
  • Strong consulting experience in similar or relevant advisory fields.  
  • Experience in managing large data sets and conducting robust analysis or modelling to help deliver meaningful ESG outputs. 
  • Deep and demonstrable expertise in a certain ESG-related area, such as human rights due diligence, Modern Slavery Act 2018 statement development, or conducting materiality assessments.  
  • Any other ESG-adjacent sustainability experience like carbon accounting or approaches to assessing physical climate risk and identifying risks and opportunities arising from the transition to a low carbon economy.
