Wood is currently seeking a HSSE Advisor to join its project management team on a Pharmaceutical Plant in the Hertfordshire area. We are keen to hear from professionals with a genuine passion to make a difference combined with a keen eye for sensible risk management and a result focused approach.
This is a site based position and we are open to Staff or PSC Basis. Requirement to be in the office 4 days per week.
The role will support a EPCm Services contract across a portfolio of project scopes with varying degrees of size / complexity and candidates should have some experience practicing HSE in an industrial setting and bring fresh ideas to counteract typical HSE challenges encountered on multi discipline / contractor construction projects in a highly regulated environment. A forward-thinking approach is needed along with the ability to align stakeholders to common goals.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to Health, Safety and the Environment with respect to Legislation, Company Policy / Management System and Client requirements, thereby ensuring business HSE risks are identified and eliminated or mitigated.
Reporting to the contract based HSSE Manager, the successful candidate will also form part of the Wood UK Operations HSSE Team and therefore have access to an extensive support network.

Responsibilities
- Support management with the development and maintaining of a contract level HSE risks and opportunities register ensuring control measure implementation.
- Provide input into establishing HSE objectives and targets within area of responsibility supporting HSE Manager in monitoring actual performance against agreed metrics.
- Support the development, maintenance and communication of an effective HSE Execution Plan and support consistent implementation on project scope delivery.
- Support the HSE / Construction / Engineering Managers in complying with relevant legal requirements including the CDM Regulations.
- Ensure HSE interface requirements are identified and effectively addressed during construction.
- Assist the development of scope specific Construction Phase Plans and coordinate implementation within scope of responsibility.
- Carry out periodic HSE performance reviews within area of responsibility ensuring relevant information is reported to internal / external stakeholders and improvement opportunities highlighted, as required.
- Implement HSE improvement plan actions as instructed by the HSE Manager.
- Coordinate consistent implementation of the audit program across the projects ensuring improvement opportunities are captured.
- Supporting HSE incident investigations ensuring the appropriate reporting requirements are undertaken and learning appropriately utilized.
- Support the task risk assessment and method statement process ensuring foreseeable HSE risks are identified and effectively controlled.
- Support the health risk assessment within area of responsibility and ensure effective controls are communicated and deployed.
- Ensure environmental aspects and impacts are identified and effective arrangements deployed to minimize negative environmental impact.
- Ensuring that emergency response arrangements are in place and are communicated to all personnel; ensuring that project requirements align with Client requirements if these take precedence.
- Liaising with and building positive relationships with external stakeholders such as client, Sub Contractor and Employee HSE Reps.
- Attendance and participation at project HSE meetings, workshops and forums as directed by the HSE Manager, ensuring actions are adequately progressed.
- Promoting workforce involvement in all HSE activities, initiatives and programs.
- Assist with the identification of HSSE training needs and monitor delivery and recording.
- Support consistent and effective implementation of the safety recognition program.
- As directed by the HSSE Manager, support safety matters relevant to the project stage gate deliverables.

Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- NVQ Level 4 IOSH (desirable)
- C&G, ONC/HNC or equivalent in Technical, HSE or related industry
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Post qualification experience in a technical role, or association with HSE role in another industry
- Experience working in the highly regulated sector ideally with some exposure to construction projects.
- Some past experience operating in a pharmaceutical environment would be beneficial.
- Familiar with industry guidance and HSE regulations, including CDM and Good Manufacturing Practice.
- Knowledge of investigation techniques with some experience applying such techniques.
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Effective/competent MS Office Suite User
- High level of communication skills in both written and spoken format
