JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Postdoctoral Scholar conducts experimental research in a cancer cell biology laboratory that uses human models of glioma to understand the role of signaling pathways in ocular cancer tumorigenesis and testing of new drugs that will target these aberrant pathways to improve the sensitivity of uveal melanoma to treatment in vitro and in vivo.

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts and analyzes Molecular and Cell Biology experiments, including DNA, RNA, protein extraction and analyses, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunohistochemistry, PCR, and other techniques.
  2. Maintains cell culture and development and maintenance of glioma cancer stem cells.
  3. Performs experiments on glioma cell lines and cancer stem-like cells to investigate the role of signaling pathways in brain cancer tumorigenesis and testing of new drugs that will target these aberrant pathways.
  4. Orders reagents and maintains records for purchases.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Doctoral Degree.

EXPERIENCE: Four years of laboratory experience as a graduate student, medical researcher, or similar experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Skilled and knowledgeable in common molecular and cell biology techniques.
  • Ability to function with minimal daily supervision.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills. 
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and skill in developing new SOPs as needed. 
  • Ability to communicate issues on experiments with the PI in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to learn new techniques and adapt them to the instrumentation present in the lab.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
