Job Summary
Under the guidance of an assigned supervisor, the AVID Tutor supports a certificated teacher by reinforcing instruction for individual or small groups of students. The tutor provides tutorial services in assigned subjects, assists with instructional materials, and offers routine clerical support. AVID is a global nonprofit organization focused on closing the achievement gap and preparing all students for college and post-secondary opportunities. AVID Tutors assist students by providing academic support, serving as role models, helping students meet college eligibility requirements, and assisting with
organizational skills. They actively participate in collaborative groups and tutorials, but are not required to be content experts. Tutors are expected to complete a training program provided by AVID teachers.

To be considered for this position, you must have completed:
Must have ONE of the following:
a. AA Degree or higher
b. A minimum of 48 units have been completed (transcript required)
c. Paraeducator Exam Certificate (high school setting, not elementary)
Additionally, you must be enrolled in college in a minimum of 6 semester units or 8 quarter units. Verification of Enrollment will be required.
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
1. A combination of qualifications equivalent to: high school graduation and verification of
enrollment in an accredited public or private college, university, or community college with a
minimum of six academic semester units or eight academic quarter units.
2. Must have ONE of the following:
a. AA Degree or higher
b. A minimum of 48 units have been completed (transcript required)
c. Paraeducator Exam Certificate (high school setting, not elementary)
LICENSE REQUIRED:

CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:
1. After the offer of employment, obtain:
a. Criminal Justice and FBI Fingerprint Clearance at the candidate’s expense
b. Negative pre-employment drug screen test through the District’s provider at the District’s expense
c. Pre-employment physical exam through the District’s provider at the District’s expense
d. Negative TB test result at the candidate’s expense plus periodic post-employment retest
(currently every four years) as required through the District’s provider at the District’s expense
e. Must complete any mandatory training assigned by the District that is generally applicable to
all classified employees or employees in this classification in particular
