EAST CENTRAL INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Announcement Transportation Routing Technician / Dispatcher
The position of a Transportation Routing Technician / Dispatcher will be available immediately at East Central ISD. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assume duties and responsibilities as related to dispatching, routing and scheduling buses and employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Open/close office and assure all personnel are on time for duties.
Dispatch drivers and vehicles on a daily basis.
Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications.
Receive, record, and report driver and bus monitor absence calls.
Assign substitute drivers and monitors for morning and afternoon shifts as needed.
Assign buses for all routes.
Coordinate with shop foreman to replace down buses.
Assist in fueling vehicles when needed.
Compile, maintain, and file all logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations.
Make/receive phone calls to and from the public and school staff as necessary to provide good communication of current conditions.
Assure that drivers have current map and route descriptions.
Be familiar with all routes and main streets in the East Central ISD.
Respond to driver requests for assistance and dispatch tow trucks, emergency services, and additional equipment as needed.
Assist in communicating late buses to the community through use of Parentlink.
Coordinate/assist routing for all regular education, special education, and McKinney Vento district transportation.
Coordinate/assist TEA student counts for reporting.
Coordinate/assist routing for Summer Programming.
Coordinate/assist routing for all transportation for district-level programs.
Coordinate/assist routing for all cap and move transportation.
Coordinate/assist in planning future routes.
Coordinate/assist in the routing for all Alternate Site requests from parents.
Coordinate/assist the ordering of required equipment needed for students receiving special education transportation.
Create forms / letters for drivers, monitors, parents, etc. to communicate changes to routes.
Coordinate/assist the attendance sheet system for all special education routes.
File route information.
Coordinate/assist in processing requests for charters / extracurricular transportation and arrange for drivers and appropriate equipment as needed.
Assist in communicating with campus/departments to schedule all district trip requests.
Assist in finalizing trip tickets at Central Office/transfinder.
Assist in maintaining the field trip board – assign staff and vehicles.
Perform data entry and inquiry functions.
Maintain an exemplary attendance record.
Maintain strict confidentiality in all existing problems with drivers.
Drive a route bus as directed by the department Director/Coordinator/Manager.
Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent Computer knowledge preferred TransFinder certified - required Knowledge of district streets & campuses Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B) with “P” and “S” endorsements Special Knowledge/Skills: Computer operations Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Dept. of Public Safety Proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally Experience: One year experience in job related area, preferred Bus driving experience, required
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written). Concentrate, reason, and understand verbal instructions. Must be able to effectively handle radio transmissions, phone calls and other communications simultaneously, while maintaining emotional control. Analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, and compute. Ability to lift and/or carry heavy weights (45 pounds or more). Stand, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, reach, and perform repetitive hand motions. Hear, speak, and possess visual acuity. Drive moderate distances. Work around moving objects or vehicles. May work prolonged or irregular hours. Work outside and inside; subject to frequent interruptions.
