Job Summary:

The DME Technician/Operations Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing effective processes to successfully execute the day-to-day operation of providing Home Medical Equipment (HME) services to patients.  This position oversees the management of warehouse operations, inventory control, purchasing, deliverables, logistics, and the general maintenance and repair of products in the facility.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for service in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Ensures the safe delivery, installation, and set-up of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) to the patient’s home or residential facility. Interacts with patients and/or caregivers of various ages and physical conditions in a professional and empathetic manner. Educates patients and/or caregivers on how to properly use, operate and maintain equipment. Instructs patients and/or caregivers on how to seek assistance in the case of operational failure. Assists patients with equipment problems. Develops and maintains a working knowledge of current HME products and services offered and all applicable governmental regulations. Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment as required. Oversees receiving, warehousing, inventory, distribution and maintenance operations. Manages inventory to ensure levels are adequate. Plans warehouse layout to ensure efficient space utilization. Processes purchase orders via telephone and internet. Ensures that vehicles are maintained in accordance with applicable compliance guidelines. Monitors personnel to ensure compliance and safe vehicle practices and ensures that vehicle records are maintained in accordance with Department of Transportation guidelines. Performs sanitation and reconditioning of returned DME items. Prioritizes and schedules deliveries, pick-ups, and service calls. Processes orders accurately and in a timely manner. Develops basic reimbursement knowledge and thoroughly documents all information necessary to ensure reimbursement for all appropriate equipment, products, and services. Promotes services and products to referral sources in the community as appropriate. Provides on-call services after hours and on weekends and holidays as needed. Establishes efficient processes to aid in the development of the HME program. Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times and protect all personal health information as it relates to patient data. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES   

May supervise up to four (4) employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT 

Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two (2) years (60 credit hours) coursework from a 4-year college or university; or three (3) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software; and Word Processing software.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

Employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA); or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report; or listed on the GSA's List of Excluded Providers; or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

Educated and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions; and/or risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
