The Department of Computer Science at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a full-time, 9- month, tenure-track faculty position in the area of Software Engineering at the Assistant Professor level. The start date is August 2026.
Information about Program and College The Department of Computer Science is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College, aligned with the university’s strategic plan, is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the world’s challenges, and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries, with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative work, and/or service toward achieving excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success, providing resources and support within the Dean’s Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools, leadership teams in other colleges, and university-serving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Through these connections, we have developed a comprehensive, cohort-based mentorship program to support the professional growth and advancement of faculty across all disciplines and ranks. The Department currently has 15 full-time faculty members with national and/or international reputations, about 330 undergraduate majors, and 90 graduate students. Undergraduate students pursue baccalaureate degrees in computer science and software engineering, and graduate students pursue an M.S. in Computer Science or in Data Science, as well as a Ph.D. in Data Science. The B.S. in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. The B.S. in Software Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The Department will also be offering an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree, a B.S. in Artificial Intelligence + X (pending the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s approval) and an online M.S. in Software Engineering.

Position Duties
Teaching Effectiveness Expectations - Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including but not limited to programming, data structures, algorithms, application development, and software engineering. - Utilize inclusive pedagogies and course design to effectively promote student learning. - Engage in curriculum development and innovation to maintain the quality and relevance of the department's course offerings. - Advise undergraduate and graduate students on academic and career paths.
Scholarship Expectations - Develop and sustain a strong research agenda that results in peer-reviewed journal articles and conference publications. - Actively seek and obtain external funding to support and maintain a productive research program. - Maintain currency in the discipline through continuous professional development.
Service Expectations - Provide service at multiple levels, including the department, college, and university. - Contribute to the academic community and relevant professional organizations through various service activities. - Participate in student recruitment, retention, and other initiatives that support the mission of the institution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related discipline (e.g., computer engineering, computer information systems). ABDs will be considered if the requirements for the degree will be completed by August 2026. - Experience in communicating technical and theoretical concepts, such as, teaching experience at the college level as a course instructor, teaching assistant, guest lecturer, or practicum instructor - Active research record in software engineering, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, or scientific presentations at conferences or workshops
Preferred Qualifications - Teaching experience at the college level (course instructor, teaching assistant, guest lecturer, teaching practicum) in the area of software engineering, such as Application Development, DevOps, Software Analysis and Design, Software Quality Assurance, Agile Project Management - Experience with research grant proposals (e.g., assisting with proposal development, submitting proposals to external funding agencies) - Institutional, professional, or community-level service experience

The finalist will be required to submit official transcripts.
BGSU policy requires the finalist to authorize and pass a background check prior to receiving an offer of employment.
