ABOUT THE FACILITIES DIVISION: The Facilities Division place a strong emphasis on providing excellent customer service to the public, clients and staff as well as helping to ensure public safety and enjoyment while they are at SPR facilities and parks.

Position Description: The Parks & Recreation Facilities Division is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker for our HVAC Department. The HVAC FMW performs a wide variety of job duties which include assisting in the maintenance and repair of Parks Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration systems.

Employees in this position perform inspections and preventive maintenance on building heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment. Replace filters in HVAC systems. Maintain and perform non-journey-level repairs to louvers, screens, hoses, belts, and filter systems as needed. This position reports to the Facility Technical Supervisor. This position is represented by PSIE Local 242 – Laborers. 

We are currently recruiting for one (1) regular, benefited position on the Day Shift between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on a 4-day, 10-hour shift.

Position Duties

  • Assist HVAC Technicians with services and repairs of HVAC systems and accessory equipment. 
  • Replace worn seals, bearings, filters, and pumps.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Maintains dampers, filters, louvers, fans, air compressors, heating coils, ductwork, and other HVAC system components.
  • Orders and inventories a variety of supplies, parts, and tools related to the work performed.    
  • Inspect, clean, and replace intake screens and filters. 
  • Inspect some mechanical systems associated with some HVAC systems.
  • Ensure the job site is clean and safe during and after projects.
  • Safe work zone preparation for skilled trades to perform technical work. 
  • Work with Asset Management Work Order (AMWO) system. 
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of general maintenance and repair work, including experience in work related to one or more specific trades. (Combinations of experience, training, and education will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.)

License, Certification, and Other Requirements

  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.


 Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks, aligning them with departmental needs.
  • Two years of experience in facilities maintenance work, or mechanical equipment repair within a facilities maintenance setting.
  • Be highly motivated and able to work as a team member in a demanding work environment, meeting tight deadlines.
  • Two years’ experience in the HVAC industry.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software and work order/asset management systems for tasks such as record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
  • Two years of experience using hand and power tools.
  • Can work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Competence in maintaining clear and comprehensive written records.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate maintenance activities, convey operational needs, concerns, and procedures.
  • Exhibit a high level of proficiency in verbal communication to convey information effectively and professionally. 
  • Experience in interacting with the public coupled with a high level of proficiency in customer service.
  • Experience maintaining multiple municipal or large commercial facilities.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Seattle Grade IV Boiler Fireman’s License within one year of employment.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Other:

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. 
  • Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Work requires exposure to excessive noise and requires taking safety precautions around equipment.
  • Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Work at extreme heights on ladders or lifts.
  • Frequently required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • May work near energized equipment.
  • Occasionally requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
  • May work near heavy equipment.
  • May work in confined spaces.
  • Dependent on business needs, candidates may be required to obtain a respirator clearance fit test.

The full salary range for this position is $37.82 – $40.75 hourly.
