WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a paramedic who has experience working in emergency medical services at the paramedic level, is self-disciplined, self-motivated, and capable of working with minimum supervision and oversight. Individual must demonstrate patience and compassion in working with Juneau’s most vulnerable populations. The individual who fills this role must be able to set schedule for daily activities, while simultaneously coordinating appointments and referrals for clients.

Capital City Fire Rescue’s Mobile Integrated Healthcare team is a dynamic and growing program aimed at tackling our evolving community health challenges. This is an opportunity to not only provide care and make a difference in people’s lives, but also a chance to help shape the future of the program.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works 10-hour shifts from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM. You will work 4 shifts per week. Office is located at the Auke Bay Fire Station, at 11900 Glacier Highway.

Position Duties

Under general direction of the CARES Program Manager. This position will work to enhance community health by providing alternatives to emergency services for persons with non-emergent needs, in order to decompress the ambulance and hospital services. This position must be capable of providing emergency medical care at the paramedic level, while also assisting patients with non-emergent referrals and medical needs.

Daily duties will include welfare checks and assessments, medication administration and management, resource connection, assisting with scheduling appointments for medical care, and providing transportation to scheduled appointments. Additionally, this position will advocate for patients, assisting them with access to other available services both in and outside of our community. The Community Health Paramedic will work closely with Capital City Fire Rescue’s Sponsoring Physician, as well as the patient’s Primary Care Providers, and the CARES Program Manager, in determining the direction of patient’s medical care and needs.

This position also works in conjunction with Bartlett Regional Hospital clinicians and the Juneau Police Department to form a Mobile Crisis Team, responding to dispatched calls. The Community Health Paramedic works with the clinician to assess and manage medical needs on scene, provide de-escalation and support in high stress situations, coordinate transport to appropriate facilities when necessary and document calls accurately.

This position will work very closely with the CARES Community Health EMT positions, which assist the Community Health
Paramedic on complex calls, and work independently on less complex calls.
