The City of Auburn, a thriving municipality in the Puget Sound area, is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator


This position performs professional work directly related to coordinating the planning, organizing, scheduling, and facilitation of various aspects of the emergency management programs; assists the Emergency Manager to foster whole-community preparedness and achieve an effective emergency management response to disasters and other incidents; facilitates training and public education for City staff and residents. Work is conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local statutes, professional, administrative, and legal standards, and general policies as established by the Emergency Manager and Director of Administration.

OUR CITY
The City of Auburn is home to over 90,000 residents and encompasses over 29.8 square miles of land, two rivers, and is part of two counties - King and Pierce.  The City operates as a Strong-Mayor form of Mayor-Council government, with a City Council of seven at-large members.

Position Duties

In this role you will:

  • Lead community preparedness programs including organizing education campaigns, giving presentations, and engaging residents at events to promote preparedness and resilience.
  • Manage volunteers and training programs including recruitment, training, and guidance of CERT members, Auburn Area Emergency Communications Team, and other volunteers.
  • Support emergency operations including serving as an on-call duty officer, responding to the Emergency Operations Center or other locations, and serve on incident management teams.
  • Maintain emergency resources including overseeing supplies, equipment, and AEDs to support the City’s preparedness.
  • Build strong partnerships by collaborating with city staff, regional partners, community groups, and the public to strengthen Auburn’s emergency preparedness.

Minimum Qualifications

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR...

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.
AND
  • Two (2) years experience, demonstrated and verifiable experience in Emergency Management, Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, Volunteer Management, or a related field
OR 
  • a combination of experience, education, and training that would indicate the level of skills, knowledge, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED
  • Possess and retain a valid state driver’s license throughout tenure of employment without impending loss at time of appointment.

  • Proof of completion of FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 classes.

NOTE: This position will be required to be fingerprinted and complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test to be allowed to view sensitive information and have unescorted access while at the Police Department (per Washington State Patrol ACCESS unit).



WE WOULD LOVE IF YOU HAD THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATES. 
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM), CERT trainer credentials, FEMA or equivalent ICS 300 and 400, FEMA EM Professional Development Series, CPR/First Aid Instructor, Project Management certifications, and/or amateur (ham) radio license are highly desirable

  • Documented experience working in an EOC, Incident Command Post, or other Incident Command System organization during an incident
