The Assistant BSA Officer is responsible for assisting the Director, Financial Crimes Investigative Unit in developing, implementing, and administering all aspects of the Bank’s BSA/AML/OFAC compliance program.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Director, Financial Crimes Investigative Unit in developing, implementing, and administering all aspects of the Bank’s BSA and OFAC Compliance Programs.
- Maintains proficient knowledge of applicable compliance statutes, regulations, and interpretations.
- Assists in maintaining the Bank’s BSA/AML/OFAC policies, standards, and procedures to ensure they align with current industry best practices, regulatory guidance, and compliance practices.
- Assists in completing the BSA/AML/OFAC and ID Theft Risk Assessments with consideration to products, services, customers, and geographies.
- Performs procedures for due diligence and ongoing monitoring of third-party relationships, including fintech partnerships, to ensure appropriate programs, policies, procedures, standards and internal controls have been effectively implemented to ensure compliance with applicable BSA/AML/OFAC laws and regulations, as well as regulatory guidance.
- Assists in identifying policy and procedural enhancements, in reference to new, modified or expanded products and services, including proper risk assessments, planning and execution of BSA/AML/OFAC related controls.
- Acts as the first point of contact for BSA related questions, exceptions and support.
- Assists in training employees and third parties to promote awareness of internal control responsibilities, related regulatory requirements, and suspicious activity detection and prevention.
- Assists in managing BSA Operations team to ensure that all department monitoring, investigation, data validation, reporting, and recordkeeping functions are performed adequately.
- Represents the Bank to both internal and external customers in a professional manner through effective face-to-face, written and telephone communications.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Financial Crimes Investigative Unit or the Chief Risk Officer.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree, required.
- 7+ years experience in BSA/AML compliance, fraud and/or case investigation, required.
- 3+ years related experience with financial institutions supporting fintech partner relationships, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of BSA/AML regulatory requirements, fraud risks, and monitoring and investigation techniques.
- Ability to proactively identify potential concerns and follow-up in a timely manner to resolve issues.
- Strong investigative, written and communication skills.
- Strong commitment to ethics, and the ability to understand a variety of issues and perspectives.
- Understanding of the banking industry, including bank partnerships with fintech companies.
- Previous experience of managing or leading teams within the BSA/AML organization at a financial institution.
