Job Summary

The position of Utility Building and Grounds Worker is one that requires a broad range of interests and skills plus a willingness to shift activities as needs arise. Care of the facility is the prime responsibility, but industrial arts skills to do simple repairs and assist with developing projects is also required. The position would require a person who gets along well with people, is patient with children, and is a team player who can integrate into the daily activities and programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years minimum experience in one or more of the following: semi-skilled maintenance and repair, building trades, animal husbandry, or horticulture. Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Salary Info

$3,543 - $4,226 per month. Maximum entry level for external candidates is $3,852 per month. Salary step placement for promotional candidates is based upon Rules of the Personnel Commission.

IMPORTANT COMMENTS: •After the filing deadline, all candidates will be notified by email if they do or do not qualify to take the written exam. •Candidates must achieve 70% on the written examination to qualify for an oral interview. Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: A preplacement medical assessment/health screening, at office expense, is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This position will require work shift to occur outside of the Kern County Superintendent of Schools operating hours. Must maintain proof of privately owned automobile insurance and possess a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
