Stormwater Maintenance Coordinator
Location: 22211 US 19 N, Clearwater, FL
Schedule: Flexible work schedule
The Stormwater Maintenance Coordinator (Engineering Specialist 1) supports the County’s Stormwater Division by managing contracted services such as pipe cleaning, lining, ditch maintenance, and related infrastructure maintenance. This technical role involves evaluating stormwater assets, recommending maintenance actions, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring accurate tracking within the County’s asset and work management system.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate independent judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and the public. This position works under the guidance and supervision of an Engineer 3.
What Will You Do?
Research and investigate maintenance requirements of County-owned stormwater assets.
Coordinate with engineering, operations, procurement, and support staff to assign contracted resources.
Manage and track all maintenance projects in the asset and work management system.
Conduct technical engineering/maintenance investigations and document findings.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support stormwater operations.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate stormwater infrastructure (ditches, channels, pipes, structures) and recommend maintenance solutions.
Coordinate contracted services and ensure work aligns with specifications.
Track and manage projects using the County’s asset and work management system.
Conduct technical engineering/maintenance investigations and prepare reports.
Collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement, and support staff.
Communicate with the public regarding stormwater maintenance activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Do you Need To Have?
Candidates must meet one of the following:
5 years of experience in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field including 3 years experience in GIS and/or AutoCAD systems; or
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field with a basic understanding of the use of GIS and/or AutoCAD systems and 1 year experience in the design, review, or construction of public works or utilities projects; or
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Additional Requirements
Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver's License.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Highly Desirable
NASSCO certification or working knowledge of pipe condition assessments.
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, natural or physical sciences or a related field.
5 years of responsible experience in stormwater maintenance or engineering, including 2 years in design, review, inspection, or maintenance of stormwater systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of technical practices of civil engineering and stormwater management system design.
Ability to review and understand construction plans and permits to determine maintenance requirements.
Knowledge of and ability to understand stormwater conditions by applying sound drainage and hydrology concepts, investigating causes, and developing solutions.
Knowledge and ability to direct work according to contract specifications.
Ability to manage contractors and maintain timelines.
Knowledge of and ability to work in GIS layers and Work Management software.
Knowledge of and ability to work in word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally.
