 Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

 

  • Experience
    • Minimum of three years of brewing industry experience required.
    • Experience in packaging department required.

  • Education and Knowledge Base
    • Certification or degree in brewing science or brewing related field and/or degree/coursework from a recognized brewing school is a plus, but not required.
    • Strong technical knowledge with all aspects of the packaging process required.
    • Strong mechanical understanding of the packaging process and equipment required.
    • Strong working knowledge and experience with commonly used brewery chemicals.
    • Must possess solid skills with basic mathematical computations and have basic computer functions knowledge, including MS Office and Google Drive. Inventory management software experience a plus.
    • Forklift certified or willingness to become certified required.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends during peak business times. We strive to have a schedule that works for everyone, but sometimes there are exceptions.
    • This position requires a valid driver's license to travel between locations, a satisfactory background check, and the ability to meet the physical demands of the position detailed below.

 

Packaging Lead Duties and Responsibilities: This job description is intended to describe the general level of work being performed; it is not intended to be all-inclusiveThe duties of this position may change from time to time. Von Ebert Brewing reserves the right to add or delete duties and responsibilities.

  • Packaging
    • Establish and/or execute SOPs in all packaging operations, including but not limited to keg washing, keg filling, and can line operations. This includes canning lines owned and operated by Von Ebert Brewing as well as third party canning lines and operations.
    • Establish and/or execute SOPs for all preventative maintenance schedules and operations for keg washing, keg filling, and can line operations.
    • Work with Director of Brewing Operations to plan packaging schedules, including planning for all labor and packaging materials needs.
  • Brewhouse and Cellar
    • Follow established Von Ebert SOPs in all brewery operations, including but not limited to wort production, brewhouse CIP, raw material and spent grain handling, FV and BBT CIP, dry-hopping, fining, transfers, tank purges and packaging.
    • Create and ensure accuracy of upcoming brew sheets from standard templates.
    • Work with Director of Brewing Operations and Director of Sensory and Innovation on new recipe and process developments.
    • Create, maintain, and adjust SOP’s.
  • Distribution
    • Assist Director of Brewing Operations and Logistics Lead in communicating availability with distributors and moving of finished beer between facilities.
    • Ensure finished goods are prepped and ready for distribution on pickup day.
  • Logistics and Software Management
    • Process finished goods and packaging material usage in EKOS Brewery Management software program.
    • Communicate with Director of Brewing Operations and Logistics Lead to ensure raw materials are ordered and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Inventory
    • Assist Director of Brewing Operations and Logistics Lead with monthly inventory and rectifying.
    • Ensure correct inventory levels are maintained for all packaging materials and finished products.
  • Facilities Maintenance
    • Maintain brewery building and equipment using proper operating, preventative maintenance and cleaning/sanitation procedures.
    • Proactively maintain and manage all repair and maintenance issues, ensuring the brewery is kept in “like new” condition.
    • Create, maintain, and adjust maintenance SOP’s and schedule.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Maintain SDS binder and ensure it is up to date.
    • Understand and apply principles and requirements of FSMA, HACCP, and GMPs in operating a food manufacturing facility.
    • Ensure all safety and security policies and procedures are followed, conduct regular safety training, and address all safety hazards immediately.
  • Teamwork
    • Build positive, professional relationships with all brewing staff, ensuring positive morale and providing a fun work environment.
    • Build positive, professional relationships with all taproom and restaurant staff, ensuring positive morale and providing a fun work environment.
    • Communicate with all staff on upcoming beers, tap list changes, and collaborations/events.
    • Practice proactive and timely email communication with brewery and restaurant staff.
  • Continuing Education
    • Work through the Von Ebert Technical Training Pipeline.
    • Propose further technical trainings for brewery staff that will add value to the brewery.
