PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE 

Under the supervision of Program Director & Senior Director of Family Strengthening , the Compadre y Compadre Parent Educator provides support to parent educators and fathers by delivering essential parenting education information, referral, and case management services to fathers enrolled in the Compadre y Compadre program. Services will be conducted at The Children’s Shelter facilities, and/or community agencies. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

· Consistently provides ongoing coaching, training, and support to staff to create and maintain an environment of safety, well-being, and a highly engaged team. 

· Assists in evaluating employee performance; rewards and addresses complaints, and help resolve problems. 

· Supports and role-models the strengthening and management of the culture and practices that reflect the organization’s mission, core values, employee promise, and fosters high engagement in staff. 

· Builds and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with internal staff, the provider network, clients, and community stakeholders. 

· Establishes and clearly communicates performance expectations and responsibilities to staff and team. 

· Promotes teamwork within the team, program, and agency. 

· Ensures that program files on clients are complete and accurate. 

· Ensures that program outcomes and goals are met. 

· Provide case management services to a minimum of 20 to 30 clients; case management consists of scheduled contact with clients both in the home and in a group setting. Scheduled visits are based upon individual needs assessment and should include delivery of curriculum, review of individual client goals, referral to appropriate community resources, and accurate documentation of client contact and progress. 

· Assists with the development, coordination, and implementation of the group-based meetings for clients and families. 

· Assists in creating initiatives that help the program grow and foster retention. 

· Meets with potential participants to complete intake/Registration processes within 48 Hours. 

· Ensures that the client records are updated in ER Data Base, and are complete and accurate within 24 hours of class completion to include uploading of documents. 

· Assist department with the development, coordination, and implementation of monthly or bi-monthly evening activities such as CYC Graduations, Period of Purple Crying Education, monthly, bi-monthly, or Quarterly in Baby Showers. 

· Assist with the support and training of parent educators within the Compadre y Compadre® program. 

· Meet the following contractual outcomes: 

o 100% of clients will commit to fathering without violence 

o 85% of fathers will have a better understanding of skills and attitudes involved with being a father 

o 85% of fathers will increase the time they spend with their children 

· Represents the agency by attending community meetings, community fairs, and other initiatives that correspond with the focus of the Compadre y Compadre Program. 

· Assist in developing and executing recruitment strategies to enroll participants into the program. 

· Accepts direction and work assignments from the Program Director to include working with clients as assigned. 

· Assists other Compadre Parent Educators when workload requires. 

· Fosters consistency and reliability with clients by maintaining regular contact both by phone and in the client’s home. 


GENERAL EXPECTATIONS 

· Contributes to building a child welfare system that is safe, secure, and stable; family-centered; connected to the community; which relies on evidence-based practice necessary to support contract services in Bexar County. 

· Adheres to all policies and procedures of the agency and its accrediting and standard-setting bodies, such as Council on Accreditation (COA) and state licensing. 

· Maintains client confidentiality per The Children’s Shelter standards and all applicable codes of ethics 

· Learns, understands, supports, and demonstrates The Children’s Shelter's mission, vision, and values. 

· Demonstrates the Trauma Informed Care principles and practices with peers, clients, and external stakeholders. 

· Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers and clients. 

· Attends mandatory trainings as defined in the position's training matrix by the assigned deadline. 

· Uses outside professional collaboration and intra-agency teamwork appropriate to the agency. 

· Skilled in organizing work in an environment with multiple challenges and priorities. 

· Avoid all conflicts of interest, real or perceived. 

· Attends work in accordance with agency leave policy. 

· Performs other duties as assigned to ensure continuity of operations. 

· Responsible for your own personal safety, your co-workers, and others who might enter your work area.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS 

· Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or extensive related experience, preferably in the field of education and children or social services. 

· Two to five years’ experience working with families of children. 

· Successful clearance of a criminal background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing. 

· Negative TB Test before employment. 

· Maintain current driver’s license/access to reliable and safe transportation for self. 

· Ability to assess the strengths and needs of the fathers referred to The Children’s Shelter/Compadre y Compadre. 

· Ability to consistently communicate clearly and calmly with staff and clients, both orally and in writing. 

· Proven sustainability to work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, and professionals. 

· Ability to professionally manage multiple client and or programmatic situations while confronted with changing circumstances and deadlines. 

· Ability to work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours, in order to meet the needs of the clients and department. This also means rotating Fridays with Team to maintain someone is in the building for follow up to the program on questions or registration till 5pm . 

· Skill in effective verbal and written communication. 

· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships. 

· Skill in managing staff and having courageous/difficult conversations. 

· Skill in organizing work in a responsible way in an environment with multiple challenges and priorities. 

· Skill in leading and prioritizing work for internal staff as well as others working on projects in collaboration with the agency. 

· Demonstrates experience and an ability to work and make decisions independently under pressure and in group settings. 

· Ability to maintain professional composure and critical thinking in a crisis-driven environment. 

· Ability to engage and communicate effectively with persons from diverse cultures and communities, including fathers, , network providers’ staff, supervisors, administrators, and the legal and judicial system. 

· Ability to operate a personal computer and use various software packages. 

· Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. 

· Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKING ENVIRONMENT 

This is a full-time position. Scheduled for 40 hours a week, need to be flexible for some weekend and evening work required.
