On 1 January 2026 five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health. A newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.  


The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

What You Will Be Doing

A mental health peer worker is someone employed on the basis of their experience of supporting family or friends with mental illness (carer peer worker). 


The Senior Family/Carer Peer Worker role has been developed specifically for people with a personal experience of caring for someone with mental health challenges and recovery.

The HOPE Senior Family/Carer Peer Worker will work collaboratively with clinical, allied health and other Lived Experience Workforce staff. As key members of the multidisciplinary treatment team, Carer Peer Workers share their experience and expertise to ensure treatment, care and support is person-centred, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and family/kin/carer inclusive.

What You Need

We anticipate you will have: 

  • Personal experience as a family member or carer of a child or adolescent with mental health challenges and recovery (note: this does not include those employed in professional caring roles)
  • Recognition and understanding of own experiences and ability to use this to support consumers
  • Ability to use lived experience expertise to support the work of the multi-disciplinary team and ensure practice is sensitive to the needs of families, carers and consumers
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Peer Worker or Peer Practice Supervisor in a mental health setting
