The opportunity We have an opening for a Head of Clinical Safety to join Bupa APAC’s Clinical Governance Team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership and advice, actively partnering with APAC Business Services in co-design, and undertaking independent assurance to ensure robust clinical governance systems and processes while identifying continuous improvement of clinical outcomes for our customers, patients and residents. With your advanced clinical expertise, you’ll offer strategic leadership in clinical governance across a diverse healthcare portfolio, emphasising clinical risk management, collaborative learning, and continual systems enhancement. You’ll effectively engage and partner with both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, with a primary focus in partnering with Bupa’s Aged Care Homes, across Australia and New Zealand. This position is offered as permanent, full-time hours based in at our Melbourne offices with flexible, hybrid work arrangements available. Key responsibilities include:Championing a culture of clinical safety, learning, and continuous improvement by embedding Bupa’s Enterprise Clinical Governance Policy and APAC Clinical Governance Framework across Business Services. Leading the maturation of clinical safety and risk management programs throughout the APAC region. Collaborating with APAC Business Services to analyse and interpret clinical incidents, complaints, and other data to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks. Providing expert advice and support on contemporary clinical governance and risk management practices to Business Services and other organisational functions. Developing, and implementing clinical policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and safe care delivery. Leading the development and execution of the APAC Clinical Governance annual assurance plan, including conducting assurance activities to evaluate and strengthen clinical systems and processes. Preparing and presenting reports to key governance bodies including the APAC Clinical Governance Committee, Executive Risk Committee, ANZ Board Risk Committee, and Global Clinical Governance Committee. Supporting organisational learning by identifying development needs and leading or contributing to coaching and educational initiatives to build clinical governance capability. To be successful, you’ll bringA nursing degree or equivalent health professional qualification with current unconditional and unrestricted professional AHPRA registration. Postgraduate qualifications in a related field, including clinical governance, health services management, healthcare risk management or equivalent is highly desirable. In addition, you’ll bring to the role:At least five years of senior clinical work experience gained within a hospital, healthcare settingExtensive experience in clinical governance and risk management within complex healthcare environments. Strong understanding of clinical safety principles, regulatory compliance, and contemporary governance frameworks. Proven ability to lead strategic programs that drive clinical safety and risk maturity across diverse teams and regions. Advanced analytical skills to interpret clinical data, identify trends, and inform proactive risk mitigation strategies. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and advise at senior levels. Experience in policy development and implementation, ensuring alignment with regulatory and organisational standards. Demonstrated capability in assurance planning and reporting, including preparation of high-level governance reports. Commitment to continuous learning and capability building, with experience in coaching and education to uplift clinical governance knowledge. Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate teams to achieve high performance and foster a positive, collaborative culture.
