Context:The Senior Transport Economist brings advanced expertise in economic and financial studies, market analysis, and transport planning, actively contributing to the success of projects.
Missions/Main Duties:Expertise and Analysis
- Conduct in-depth market analyses and anticipate trends in freight and passenger traffic at both national and regional levels.
- Assess the economic profitability, financial viability, and socio-economic impacts of projects, services, or improvements across all modes: rail, road, maritime, and intermodal.
- Design and implement economic models adapted to various configurations, from transshipment to intermodality.
Planning and Strategic Consulting
- Carry out cost-benefit and life-cycle analyses, and propose financing solutions (public, private, partnerships).
- Participate in the development of public policies, the planning of strategic infrastructure, and the identification of business opportunities.
- Provide clear strategic advice and produce structured reports to support decision-making for clients and public or private authorities.
Communication and Project Management
- Present analyses and recommendations at workshops, meetings, and presentations for clients and authorities at various levels.
- Support project management and ensure the quality and rigor of deliverables.
Education: Graduate degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, finance, or a related field.
Years of experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in applied economics in the transport sector, with proven exposure to both freight and passenger domains.
Technical competencies:
- Strong expertise in market studies, traffic forecasting, financial and economic modeling.
- Mastery of cost-benefit analysis methods and the evaluation of economic impacts.
- Good knowledge of rail, road, and maritime operations and challenges, and ideally of the Canadian intermodal sector.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex analyses while demonstrating innovation.
- Experience in public policy development or strategic consulting is an asset.
- Excellent command of MS Office (especially advanced MS Excel) and specialized software.
- CFA or Institute of Asset Management (IAM) certification is an asset.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
