JOB TITLE: MTSS School Specialist 

UNIT/DEPARTMENT: EPS 

REPORTS TO: MTSS Coordinator 

SUPERVISES: N/A 

STATUS: Full Time/Exempt 

 

SUMMARY  

The MTSS School Specialist leads the design, alignment, and oversight of school-level Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), with a focus on attendance, behavior, and classroom success. This role ensures that Tier I systems are implemented with fidelity and that Tier II and III supports are timely, data-informed, and student-responsive. The Specialist support MTSS Systems Coaches, builds leadership capacity among staff, and facilitates system-wide planning, evaluation, and communication efforts. 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS  

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

 

Preferred: 

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS  

Required 

  • Experience implementing or leading MTSS systems or programs in a school setting
  • Experience in teaching, counseling, social work, SPED, intervention, or instructional coaching

Preferred: 

  • Experience supervising instructional or intervention staff
  • Experience with Tier I–III interventions, PBIS, Restorative Practices, and SEL frameworks
  • Instructional coaching or MTSS coordinator experience
  • Familiarity with grant compliance and MTSS coordination

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Required Duties & Responsibilities:  

Student Support & Program Implementation 

  • Provide leadership and direction for schoolwide MTSS systems across academic, behavioral, and attendance domains
  • Ensure alignment and fidelity in implementation of Tier I strategies and Tier II/III interventions
  • Supervise MTSS Systems Coaches and guide their work to support school teams effectively
  • Promote sustainable strategies that meet diverse student needs through structured MTSS frameworks

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and MTSS teams to co-design effective systems
  • Facilitate regular MTSS meetings to assess progress, address challenges, and promote alignment across tiers
  • Communicate MTSS priorities and goals clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Build trust and shared ownership among leadership, school teams, and families

Documentation & Compliance 

  • Ensure MTSS efforts align with state and federal compliance requirements, school improvement goals, and organizational priorities
  • Support fidelity tracking, evaluation documentation, and system-level reporting as needed

Data & Evaluation 

  • Develop and manage data systems to monitor attendance, behavior, and academic outcomes
  • Analyze school-wide and disaggregated data to inform continuous improvement
  • Monitor Tier I–III interventions and make timely adjustments based on progress indicators

Family & Community Engagement 

  • Ensure families are engaged in understanding MTSS supports and contribute to student-centered planning
  • Represent MTSS efforts with external partners, district leaders, and community stakeholders as needed

Administrative Functions 

  • Communicate consistently with your immediate supervisor, GPS Solutions administrative team, and appropriate school-based staff regarding assigned programs and activities.
  • Foster and engage in cooperative, professional working relationships.
  • Complete all assignments in accordance with GPS Solutions and school policies and procedures.

Human Resource Functions 

  • Maintain current knowledge of and follow GPS Solutions Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.

Confidentiality & Ethical Compliance 

  • Maintain confidentiality of all students, family, and staff information.
  • Understand and fulfill your responsibilities as a mandated reporter in accordance with your state’s regulations.
  • Stay current with applicable codes of ethics and legal requirements (e.g., ASCA, NASW, FERPA, state and federal laws).

Payroll & Compliance Functions 

  • Submit all required compliance documentation to PNP Payroll staff by the designated due dates.

POTENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Aid in completing geocoding with their coordinator and administration.
