- Office in Las Vegas
Motional’s Las Vegas office is located less than 10 miles from the Las Vegas strip at 730 E Pilot Road and is home to one of the largest fleets of self-driving vehicles. The city’s grid system of roads and being one of America’s “smart cities” allows for extensive research and development testing.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Data Analysis & Monitoring (20–30% of Role)
- Perform in-depth data analysis across hardware and system-level signals, leveraging large datasets to mine and track trends in vehicle and subsystem performance.
- Develop hardware trend models to identify early indicators of degradation, instability, or failures, enabling proactive issue resolution.
- Build and maintain Metrics, Reporting, and Monitoring (MRMs) dashboards that provide visibility into system health, reliability, and recurring issues at both the component and fleet level.
- Partner with engineering and leadership teams to deliver insights from data analysis that inform design changes, reliability improvements, and preventive actions.
Integration, Testing & Validation
- Repair, maintain, test, and validate a wide range of electrical and mechanical vehicle systems, ensuring proper integration across hardware and software components.
- Inspect and maintain equipment using debugging tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, Vector CAN analysis software, and PC-based diagnostic tools to isolate faults and validate fixes.
- Work with cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software, systems) to design and execute integration test plans.
- Troubleshoot issues in a Linux terminal environment, applying both software and hardware debugging techniques.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Author, publish, and maintain detailed technical documentation for subsystem testing, component configuration, integration workflows, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Systematically track, document, and manage issues from discovery through resolution, ensuring full visibility across teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to lessons learned, root cause analyses, and process refinements.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical and networking systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, FlexRay, etc.).
- Proven ability in issue isolation, documentation, and systematic problem-solving.
- Experience working in a Linux terminal environment for troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with computer system architecture and cross-domain integration challenges.
- Strong skills in authoring and maintaining technical documentation for automotive systems and processes.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic projects, with strong adaptability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of cameras, LiDAR, and RADAR sensors and their integration in vehicle systems.
Bonus Points (Not Required):
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or C++, particularly for data processing, test automation, and diagnostic scripting.
- Experience with issue-tracking and task management platforms (e.g., JIRA, Polarion, Confluence).
- Experience with fleet-level reliability analysis or lifecycle hardware monitoring.
This role is based in our Las Vegas office and requires 5 in-office days each week.
