The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a 'Service Delivery Area' comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.The Maintenance Worker position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks including areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, heating, and cooling equipment in addition to other trades for facilities of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.Essential Responsibilities and Duties:Provides necessary repairs and maintenance for the facilities of the Ponca Tribe of NebraskaPrioritizes and completes work orders as received and submit monthly report of all work ordersPerforms light plumbing and electrical duties and general carpentry and repairs for the facilitiesPerforms grounds keeping for facilitiesAssists in evaluation of safety policies and procedures for compliance with quality assurance and facility accreditation requirementsMakes regular rounds inside and outside of the facility and its grounds to look for any suspicious activity, safety issues, potential workplace hazards, and to assure the security of the grounds, the property, facility, and its occupantsSecures the building after workhours; this includes locking all doors, windows and checking core safety issues such as coffee pots left on, etc. and arming and disarming the security system; in coordination with other staff & contracted security guardsProvides an after-hour number in which he/she can be contacted in case of an emergent situation at the facilityAssist the Emergency Management Department with evacuation plans for the facilities in the case of fire, tornado or any other similar hazard that may arise at various times throughout the yearSchedules planned evacuation drills In coordination with Emergency ManagementCan relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile peopleWork independently with minimal supervisionMaintains strict confidentiality and honor the Privacy Act and HIPAAOther duties as assignedRelationships and Authority:Will respond to requests of other employees as it relates to this position's duties. This position has no supervisory duties.Working Environment and Physical Demands:This employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electric shock and vibration. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during work hours. Is subject to emotionally upset patients, , personnel and visitorsQualifications:Minimum:High school diploma or GEDOne year of related experienceElectrical, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and general maintenance skills, and knowledgeAble to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within three months of hire, if not already certifiedComputer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access programsExcellent written and oral communication skillsSuccessfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checksValid driver's license and be insurableAble and willing to travelPreferred:Certification or associates degree in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or related fieldFirst Aid and CPR certifiedOne or more years of experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizationsPreference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe.
