About the Department

The Chief Appraiser for the Assessor’s Office promotes trust in the competency and professionalism of the Assessor’s Office through supervision of the real property appraisal department, dedication to fair and uniform values, ensuring statutory compliance, performing a leadership role in software selection and deployment, commitment to courteous and effective customer service, and promotion of a team-oriented work environment. The incumbent for Chief Appraiser must be able to defend appraised values at all levels of appeal for all types of real property through clear and concise written appraisal reports in compliance with USPAP for mass appraisal (Standard 6) and fee appraisal (Standard 2) plus oral presentations at the County Board of Equalization, State Board of Equalization, District Court, and arbitration panels.  

Minimum Qualifications

College degree or equivalent experience in the assessment field.  A minimum of five years relevant experience in an Assessor’s Office with both mass and individual property appraisals of residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and vacant land; and a minimum of three years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience, with at least three years high level experience in an office environment with demonstrated experience in supervising a team and working knowledge of government policy.  Strong math skills, analytical thinking skills and experience with statistical analysis are required.  Valid Colorado Driver's License and Certified Colorado Appraisal License (Certified General preferred) at time of appointment and throughout employment.  Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.  Good communication skills are a must!
