Job Summary

We are seeking a Central Services Technician III to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in San Diego, CA.

 

As the Central Services Technician III, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall sanitation of cages and related equipment, including cage wash rooms, feed and bedding rooms, hallways, loading docks and other specific areas. Responsible for receiving feed, bedding and other supplies. All specific duties are to be performed in accordance with all regulations pertaining to federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws and departmental SOPs pertaining to Good Laboratory Animal Practices. Observe, monitor and document the health and physical environment within the client’s animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Schedules, monitors and trains Central Services Technicians Level 1 and 2.
  • Maintains records pertaining to cagewash runs, operations, maintenance schedules, etc.
  • Removes dirty bedding and other items from shoe boxes
  • Performs cage and other related equipment sanitation
  • Flushes water cage manifolds
  • Operates washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order
  • Performs daily start-up and shut down procedures of the cage washer
  • Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment and other related equipment
  • Transports caging and equipment between animal areas and cage wash rooms and vice versa
  • Performs sanitation of cage wash rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways, feed, bedding and storage areas
  • Organizes and manages documentation
  • Removes trash and waste according to safety guidelines

Job Summary

 

  • Read and understand all SOPs related to assigned duties
  • Receives and stores animal feed, bedding and supplies; records and files the appropriate information
  • Sanitize empty animal room(s) and labs
  • Inspect enrichment devices, cages and other items
  • Conducts and collects various aseptic sampling for the monitoring of water quality, sanitized animal racks and equipment.
  • Labex storage escort for our storage facility. Kept inventory of what was sent out and brought back.
  • Reverse osmosis fill and check tanks daily for all 4 buildings
  • Putting together Paperwork for log sheets updates, SOP, safety signs, emergency signs etc..
  • Lighting log sheet 6 a.m. checks
  • Escort for edstrom,steris HP sterilizer, sometimes scales and balances techs.
  • Speaking with CBRE facilities about Equipment failures work orders and making sure the equipment was fixed at timely manner
  • Safety training for cagewash
  • Review, comprehend and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to laboratory animals for research.
  • May Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations. May Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Central Services Technician III position.

 

  • Education:  High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Experience:  Minimum of two+ years experience working in a laboratory animal facility performing cage wash duties, scheduling staff and troubleshooting and identifying equipment issues. Leadership and/or team oversight experience preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure:  Preference will be given to candidates who evidence achievement of AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and work/type at a computer. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, push/pull, and use hands for repetitive tasks.
  • Employees must be able to lift, move, and/or hold up to 50 pounds independently; this includes equipment and animals.

 

The pay range for this position is $25-27 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
