POSITION TITLE:  Accounting Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Chief Administrative Officer

FLSA STANDARD: Temporary-to-Hire (30 hours per week)

COMPENSATION:   $20/hr-$25/hr (Based on Experience) 


POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Coordinator works closely with the Administrative team, which includes the CAO, VP of Administrative Operations, VP of Human Resources, and the Controller, and is responsible for maintaining general ledger accounts and organizational business transactions to ensure timely and accurate reporting and analysis for the organization. This position will integrate, secure, and maintain accounting records and keep strict confidentiality of sensitive information. The individual must have technical accounting experience plus the ability to interface with staff who have limited accounting understanding and skills. The Accounting Coordinator will work with and should understand every department in the organization. 



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Process and accurately record accounting transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, as well as daily deposits. 

  2. Process month-end balancing journal entries; reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information. 

  3. Manage and maintain the NXT/Blackbaud/ Financial Edge accounting database system.

  4. Follow organizational protocols for data entry and monitor the quality of the data.

  5. Monitor and analyze general ledger accounts monthly and assist with month-end reconciliations; maintain all official accounting records in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  6. Must maintain financial stewardship by keeping information confidential. 

  7. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. Provide direction and guidance to staff regarding accounting policies and procedures.

  8. Assist with all financial aspects and support of grants, including grant compliance and external reporting.

  9. Provide payroll support at the direction of the VP of Human Resources and/or senior leadership.

  10. Perform other accounting duties as assigned by CAO. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Proven experience in accounting with several years of experience in accounting, database management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  2. Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college/university is preferred.

  3. Technical proficiency with MS Office and Google Suites, in addition to experience using accounting applications. Experience with NXT/Blackbaud/ Financial Edge is a plus.

  4. Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and familiarity with non-profit accounting.

  5. Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and ethical standards.

  6. Proficient analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  7. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to assist internal and external customers.

  8. Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and independently with strong organizational skills and minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Employee will work a minimum of 30 hours per week and may occasionally include some evenings and weekends as needed. 

  2. Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to conduct work throughout the BRIDGES Center as well as relevant off-site locations.

  3. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds unassisted.

  4. Must have dependable transportation to travel to and from meetings and events.
