Who we are:
At Gunfire Games, we’re passionate about crafting unforgettable worlds and gameplay experiences. Our legacy includes hits like The Darksiders Series, Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant II, and Chronos and we're not slowing down. We're a team driven by innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to pushing our craft forward.
We’re looking for talented, passionate people to help shape the next chapter in our story. Right now, we’re seeking a Mid–Senior Environment Artist to join our team. This role will collaborate closely with Design and Art leadership to create breathtaking environments that immerse players and elevate the experience. If you love building worlds, shaping atmosphere through materials and storytelling, and thrive in a highly creative environment, we want to hear from you.
What you’ll do:
- Build environments from proxy to polish that feel cohesive, intentional, and immersive, always aligned with project goals.
- Balance artistic vision with gameplay functionality, keeping in mind both player experience and engine constraints.
- Collaborate closely with art, design, and production teams to ensure style and functionality mesh seamlessly.
- Take direction in style and technique, ensuring work matches the overall vision of the project.
- Implement feedback quickly and effectively.
- Accurately estimate tasks, delivering high-quality results on time.
- Communicate progress clearly across disciplines and contribute to a collaborative, solution-focused culture.
Who you are:
- 3+ years of professional experience in game development for a mid-level role, or 5+ years for senior-level.
- A strong portfolio showcasing atmospheric environments that incorporate thoughtful storytelling and moody, dark or atmospheric themes a plus.
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools: Unreal Engine, Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance, and 3ds Max.
- A solid grasp of artistic principles (composition, color, shape language, lighting) and how they contribute to polished, technically sound environments.
- Skilled at managing asset budgets and workflows efficiently.
- Strong communicator who explains process clearly, welcomes feedback, and collaborates with confidence.
- Flexible, curious, and eager to learn new tools and techniques that improve collaboration and project quality.
- Experience shipping at least one AA/AAA title.
Bonus XP: (Not required, but we’d be excited if you bring some of these to the table!)
- Expertise in procedural workflows, technical art, or tools pipelines that support environment creation.
- Strong knowledge of Substance Designer or material authoring pipelines. Experience creating designer-friendly materials, shaders, or modular workflows that scale across a project.
- A passion for mentoring and helping junior artists grow while lightening the leads’ workload.
- Cross-disciplinary flexibility: able to jump between worldbuilding, asset creation, and technical problem solving.
Note: This is a temporary Mid–Senior role with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our upcoming titles. We’re primarily seeking someone with a strong foundation in environment art, but we’re especially excited about candidates who bring strengths in procedural/material workflows or senior-level experience in mentoring and driving projects forward. As with any role, the responsibilities listed above are not exhaustive, and you may be asked to take on additional tasks as reasonably required.
Pay range: $$70,000 - $85,000 Title level (mid/senior) and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
