About the program:

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or equivalent relevant experience in Defence projects.
  • Experienced Systems Engineer with background in large-scale, complex systems design.
  • Skilled in Model-Based Systems Development/Engineering (MBSD/MBE) principles.
  • Hands-on experience with modelling and requirements tools (e.g. MagicDraw, Rhapsody, DOORS, DNG).
  • Able to perform trade-offs between complex system designs and requirements.
  • Experienced in Agile development environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • An active NV-1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information.

Your responsibilities will include:

Join Lockheed Martin Australia and help deliver AIR6500, a once-in-a-generation program that will transform Australia’s defence capability. As a Systems Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing complex, integrated systems that connect sensors, networks, and decision-making tools to protect Australia’s national interests.

You will contribute to the design, analysis, and definition of key system and subsystem requirements within a Model-Based Engineering (MBE) environment. Working closely with subject matter experts across Lockheed Martin and partner organisations, you will help develop interface definitions, perform trade studies, and deliver the engineering artefacts that underpin AIR6500’s success.

Key responsibilities:
  • Decompose and resolve system and subsystem-level requirements into designs, using MBE tools and frameworks.
  • Define and manage key interfaces and system trade-offs against requirements.
  • Develop technical artefacts such as solution descriptions, trade studies, and requirements documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project activities, reviews, and bids.
  • Drive effective configuration, requirements, and acceptance methodologies.
