The Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology in the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh is recruiting a part-time faculty member in the appointment stream as a Visiting Professor.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD, MD, or DVM with post-doctoral training in areas related to infectious diseases and microbiology. Research areas of particular interest to the department include Emerging and Vector-Borne Infectious Diseases, One Health, Climate Change and Global Health, HIV and Tuberculosis (TB), and Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness. Evidence of collaboration and success in these and related areas is required. Demonstrated evidence of scholarly productivity and independent investigator status is required. Experience in the design, development, and delivery of new academic courses and curricula, ideally including online/asynchronous formats and prior engagement with One Health programs, is strongly desired.
The Visiting Professor will serve as Co-Director of the new Master of Science in One Health alongside our Department Chair, Dr. Suresh Kuchipudi, and be the primary point person for administrative and curricular development. The responsibilities of this position include leading curriculum design and revision (competencies, syllabi, assessment maps) and shepherding School/University approvals. Coordinating the joint MS in One Health with the University of Nicosia (Cyprus) from proposal through launch, including quality assurance, scheduling, and partner governance. Contributing to the MD–MPH integration (course sequencing and alignment of asynchronous core) and to the Online MPH One Health concentration build-out. Teaching and mentoring (select courses and capstones) and developing practicum networks with state, federal, and international One Health partners. Supporting program operations (recruitment, student advising, faculty coordination) and contributing to evaluation, continuous improvement, and accreditation readiness.
This position is a primarily remote to facilitate coordination with partners across time zones; occasional on-campus meetings will be required.
Professors will have served at least 5 to 7 years as Associate Professors and create a strong body of impactful scholarship, a national and developing international reputation, effectiveness as a teacher, and service, and attained superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations. Professors must demonstrate a sustained trajectory of contribution and career progression with increasing responsibilities and accomplishments over time, ranking among the foremost leaders in their field.
