The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Tailings Equipment Operator at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour shift, Day / Night shift schedule.

Tailings Equipment Operator

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Tailings Supervisor, the Tailings Equipment Operator is responsible for providing full oversight of the operation of tailings equipment in accordance with best practices and safe operating procedures in order to maintain roads and tailings storage facility construction.

Responsibilities 

• Ensures site compliance with mining regulations and follows Copper Mountain Mine site’s safety, quality, and environmental standards in all aspects of work,
• Observes Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mines Act, and Copper Mountain SOPs,
• Assists in pipefitting and fusing,
• Works with dozer, excavator, grader, and articulating rock trucks,
• Assists in any operational issues in any area of the mine including relines and support maintenance on mill shutdown days,
• Provides bolting and unbolting HDPE pipe,
• Performs any other responsibilities related to the Tailings Equipment Operator position as required or as assigned by the department head.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
• Must have safe rigging or be able to obtain certification,
• Minimum of two (2) years in the operation of Dozer, Excavator, Grader, and Articulating Rock Truck,
• Pipefitting/fusing, tailings facility experiences preferred,
• Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,
• Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
• Demonstrated ability in operating equipment as listed by mine procedures and standards – Road Maintenance, Dam Construction,
• Working knowledge of Tailings and Mill operations is an asset,
• Demonstrates ability to service own equipment and to work in a fast-paced environment,
• Strong work ethic, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision,
• Strong mechanical skills,
• Will be required to be clean-shaven.

Working Conditions

• Work requires working in heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,
• Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments.

Rate of Pay

$45.04/ hr.
