Primary Purpose

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Lead the strategic direction and execution of the corporation’s giving and community engagement programs to advance business objectives and strengthen community relationships. This role oversees a comprehensive portfolio—including corporate contributions, sponsorships, events, employee giving and volunteerism, sports facilities management, memberships, and matching gifts—ensuring alignment with company priorities and stakeholder expectations. Strategic oversight and awareness of  Support the growth and awareness of appropriate programs in the respective Utility service territory.

 

The Senior Manager directs staff and cross-functional teams to deliver impactful initiatives, fosters a culture of diversity and professional growth, and ensures regulatory compliance and operational excellence. This position also plays a critical role in coordinating outreach and engagement strategies across internal departments and external partners, driving visibility and effectiveness of programs within the utility’s service territory. Flexibility to work extended hours during storms or energy emergencies is required.


Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Direct and manage the staff in the successful completion of the department goals and objectives while remaining within budget (20%)
Build cross-functional teams to integrate corporate giving strategy into communications, public relations and marketing plans and position corporate citizenship brand. Relate community involvement initiatives to sponsorship impacts. (5%)
Recommend and implement corporate giving policies and programs that are aligned with culture of the Company and complements and enhance business objectives. Counsel grantees and structure grants to fully maximize and leverage dollars for the organization. Notify and administer process of communicating disposition of grant requests. Monitor approved grants to ensure compliance with terms of grants as well as effectiveness . (15%)
Develop strategies for measuring and evaluating program outcomes. Develop and monitor metrics to measure the effectiveness of grant making, corporate citizenship initiatives, low income program and community engagement performance. Provide oversight of data gathering and dissemination to support internal and regulatory reporting requirements (5%)
Develop and enhance relationship with internal and external stakeholders to achieve department goals and initiatives. Represent the corporation's philanthropic initiatives externally and internally to audiences including the press, the general public, other companies, foundations and professional associations of grant makers in areas where the corporation facilities exist. Regularly interface with corporate executives, other departments, business units, and non-profit community organizations to demonstrate the value of Corporate Relations by managing sponsorships, community and corporate events, the employee giving campaign, and other projects and promotions. Consult with senior management on corporate citizenship strategies, prepare and present reports on department activities  (20%)
Research current issues and trends in corporate citizenship and the low-income sector and emulate and adapt "world-class" practices through benchmarking techniques. Develop strategies and techniques for conducting company and community assessments to establish giving priorities that meet community needs and support company's business objectives (15%)
Develop and monitor the philanthropic budget to ensure the most effective use of company resources. Manage the legal, tax and accounting activities of the Foundation to ensure compliance with IRS and other laws and regulations governing its operations. Acts as president of the Foundation Board and runs the grant making process including due diligence, form and process design. Develop and control Foundation's budget, produce Foundation's Annual Report and print communication materials describing the Foundation programs. Directs and coordinates the preparation of a range of reports necessary to fulfill compliance requirements (20%)


JOB SCOPE

This position is responsible for managing the annual budget and a staff of four or more management and administrative assistant. The position also does the following: Position has direct contact with external constituencies such as current/and/or prospective customers, shareholders, vendors, regulatory, environmental agencies.
Directors of Nonprofit Organizations discuss requests received for Company support and any special partnership projects, advise them whether or not the Company will be able to support. Officers and management of other corporations To form partnerships, to benchmark Corporate Relations activities to those of other companies, to discuss issues related to philanthropic involvement and addressing of community issues. Government Officials to discuss community issues Vendors/Consultants  to purchase equipment and services that have a positive impact on Corporate Relations performance and productivity, which will insure better response to customer/community, needs. Board of Trustees of influential organizations of statewide scope to discuss community issues and issues related to nonprofit needs/concerns. Position requires significant after-hours participation in external events (approx. 40 hours per month). This individual must act independently and "immediately" and, therefore, is empowered to be the decision maker to external organizations as well as internal business units. Additionally, a fairly high level of authority is required to perform in this role in order to efficiently determine and respond promptly to opportunities that will maximize visibility for the company; reduce the number of "lost opportunities"; or encourage the building of positive relationships with community, corporate leaders and employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Communications or equivalent
10 years of relevant experience.
In lieu of degree, 12-15 years of relevant experience.
3-5 years' experience as a manager or supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 6 years experience in public relations, communications, advertising, media relations and/or certification in Public Affairs and in handling community and philanthropic activities/programs.
Graduate degree or graduate level work in Business or Communications desirable

Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $140,800.00/Yr. – $193,600.00/Yr. plus an additional $25K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually.
