Director of Community Mental Health Services

Anixter Center is looking for a leader who is passionate about providing quality mental health services to some of Chicago’s most marginalized and vulnerable individuals. The ideal candidate should have a growth mindset to execute on our strategic goal to increase the impact and scope of our mental health program. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable with building positive collaborations both within the organization as well as with external referral sources.
Position Summary:
The Director of Community Mental Health Services is responsible for the operational management and clinical oversight of mental health services. The Director will lead and mentor teams in delivering accessible, high-quality, and culturally responsive mental health care that meets the needs of diverse populations. This role will ensure program effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and promote mental wellness and recovery in the community. The work is primarily in person on Chicago’s northside.
Oversight of the following programs:
- Community mental health counseling / day program.
- Juvenile justice program supporting youth.
- American Sign Language (ASL) counseling / day program for people who are Deaf and DeafBlind.
Duties:
Leadership & Program Development:
- Implement, and evaluate strategies for community mental health services to thrive, meeting financial and quality goals.
Clinical Leadership & Supervision:
- Provide clinical oversight and consultation for staff, ensuring ethical and effective treatment approaches.
- Directly supervise 5 – 7 counselors and interns and the manager of Community Mental Health Services.
- Foster a trauma-informed, inclusive, and supportive work culture.
Program Oversight & Operations:
- Oversee daily operations of clinical and non-clinical program components, ensuring quality, efficiency, and consistency.
- Uphold high standards of care. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage program budgets in coordination with the Vice President.
- Monitor revenue (primarily billing) to ensure financial accountability. Develop a plan to make improvements when needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
- Current licensure as an LCSW or LCPC in Illinois.
- Strong understanding of community mental health models, trauma-informed care, and culturally competent practices.
- 1 year of experience managing employees to achieve program outcomes.
- Competence with electronic health records (EHR), computer software, and using data to drive decisions.
Preferred:
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities. ASL a plus.
- Experience with Employment initiatives and models for people with serious mental health conditions.
