- Responsible for monitoring adult student grades and attendance, including maintaining compliance record keeping for adult programs. (in WEVEIS and Excel)
- Responsible for assisting adult program instructors in monitoring attendance problems.
- Responsible for maintaining payment plans and accepting payments on student accounts
- Responsible for maintaining and improving student record keeping-for example and not limited to- financial aid files, financial aid allocation, annual reporting, transcripts, certificates
- May be responsible for planning, implementing and/or attending designated co-curricular activities and/or programs at the school or outside locations such as marketing and recruitment events, job fairs, awards programs, and monitoring OJT compliance activities and paperwork.
- Responsible for planning and implementing personalized admissions experience for all students.
- Accountable for individual adult student admission/application experience and satisfaction.
- Strong working/communication skills with students, industry partners and stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Willing to implement any other programs designated by principal for school improvement.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Adult Programs Principal
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 240 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by KCSBOE.
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Schools Counselor Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level
Adult Programs- Admissions & Financial Aid /Counselor 2025-2026
QUALIFICATIONS:
General Counseling:
1. Holds a professional certificate within the grade level for which the school counselor endorsement is requested.
2. Has completed the requirement for a Master’s Degree relevant to the improvement of instruction from an institution of higher education accredited to grant the degree.
3. Has completed the institution’s approved Master’s Degree for school counselor including the culminating clinical experience within the grade levels shown on the professional certificate.
4. Possesses individual and group counseling skills.
5. Holds current knowledge of guidance and counseling concepts and practices.
6. Demonstrates writing and speaking skills.
7. Has the ability to function in crisis situations.
8. Demonstrates program organization and management skills.
9. Demonstrates ability to communicate as evidenced by personal interview.
10. Possesses counseling experience.
11. Possesses ability to work with school-administrators/teachers/adult students.
12. Holds academic performance in higher education and favorable evaluations.
13. Shows ability to work across department and inter-professional lines.
14. Presents recommendations from three references with personal knowledge of work and education experiences.
Admissions/Financial Aid:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Provides individual or group counseling to adult students as part of admissions process for personal growth, self-understanding and educational/career planning.
2) Provides crisis intervention for students who have serious, urgent and chronic problems or serves on Crisis Response Team.
3) Provides guidance to adult students for personal growth, self-understanding and education/career planning.4) Maintains procedures for following confidentiality and ethical codes.
5) Confers with administrators regarding adult student needs.
6) Consults with teachers regarding the social, financial, personal needs of individual students.
7) Assists teachers in developing strategies for classroom management and adult student discipline policies.
8) Serves as a resource person to teachers in developing hybrid learning units to address attendance compliance requirements.
9) Serves as a liaison with Student Support Services.
10) Provides leadership in promoting and increasing advisory membership.
11) Maintains program calendars and contributes to yearly planning for program costs.
12) Participates in ongoing studies related to adult student needs.
13) Develops written plans for guidance and counseling adult students during admissions process and while enrolled.
15) Seeks participation from staff, and students in planning the admissions guidance and counseling program.
16) Works with applicants to schedule and conduct Adult Programs Entrance Testing (TABE) for admission acceptance.
17) Assists in coordinating the referral of students to student services and to community agencies.
18) Maintains ongoing liaison relationships with personnel in other educational institutions and in community-based programs and within program industries.
19) Assists in facilitating student transition to workplace or continuing education and corresponding record-keeping.
20) Uses a variety of methods to collect and disseminate guidance information.
21) Coordinates programmatic adult student activities such as OJT experiences, orientation programs, job fairs, student appreciation activities.
22) Participates in Adult Programs Staff and PD meetings
23) Utilizes self-appraisal for the improvement of skills and participates in continuing education for professional development.
REPORTS TO: Adult Program Principal/ School Principal
SUPERVISES: the school counselor works cooperatively with the Adult Programs and school building principal; teachers; and students, and support personnel in planning and implementing the admissions, application and financial aid and counseling programs for adult students.
CONTRACT PROVISIONS:: 240 days according to school employed. Salary in accordance with established pay schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
