Walnut Hill School for the Arts has an immediate opening for a Class Pianist to support the School's Theater Department. 

This position will work as Class Pianist for the 10th Grade Musical Theater 2 class and the 12th Grade Musical Theater 4 class. Additionally, this role will assist with the Musical Theater Repertoire elective class. Reporting to the lead instructors for the courses and the Director of Theater, the Class Pianist also serves as a substitute instructor for other Class Pianists and Music Directors when available. This position may have the opportunity to serve as Associate Music Director for the Walnut Hill Theater Department’s mainstage musical with additional compensation.

Class requirements include but are not limited to, recording and sharing accompaniment tracks with students for classes and rehearsals, working with students individually for vocal coaching on their selected material, and supporting the lead instructor in music analysis and interpretation with students.

Compensation: $90/session

Schedule:

Classes meet three times per week (M, W, F) from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM (13 weeks per semester) with additional substitution and other potential opportunities available during the School year.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong sight reading skills;
  • Ability to transpose;
  • Knowledge of Musical Theater Repertoire;
  • Strong communication skills with both students and colleagues and ability to work collaboratively with others;
  • Ability to teach high level, high-school aged, Theater students and encourage them to reach their maximum potential; experience with adolescents a plus;
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to comply with all School policies and procedures

Physical Demands:

Physical demands include dexterity for playing piano and reading music as well as office machine and supply operation including but not limited to writing, typing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, traveling to/from locations on campus, ascending/descending stairs, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
