POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Director of Annual Giving

Reports To: Vice President of Resource Development

Location: Everett, WA

Salary: $77,968.80 - $78,968.80

Primary Function/ Position Summary:

The Director of Annual Giving will build and implement a robust annual giving program that engages the community and grows revenue in alignment with the Boys and Girls Club Snohomish  mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The successful candidate will have the ability to execute the annual fundraising plan while exploring other areas of revenue growth. This individual will work with the development team and the board to grow a culture of philanthropy within the community among community leaders and donors. Oversee the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors to the organization, including the management of multiple appeals annually through the administrative office and at local clubs to meet and exceed annual budgeted fundraising goals.

Key Roles, (Essential Job Responsibilities.

Annual Fundraising

  • Provide leadership and build relationships for achieving and growing annual campaign income from individual donors & businesses.

  • Develop annual campaign materials, strategy and calendar for securing repeat and new donors, recovering lapsed donors.

  • Create the case to promote benefits of supporting the organization to attract a wide range of donors.   

  • Ensure all donors receive appropriate and timely recognition & receipts for gifts. 

  • Develop positive, sustainable relationships with individuals & businesses to obtain maximum support for annual campaigns. 

  • Cultivate current major contributors, board members and highly engaged volunteers to find new major gift prospects. 

  • Recruit and engage community volunteers to help promote and secure support for annual campaign success. 

  • Identify donors for Vice President of Resource Development and Chief Executive Director who have capacity for major gifts and planned giving. 

  • Work closely as a team with other RD staff to minimize overlap of donor requests.

  • Support the annual gala and the event team through acquiring sponsorships, potential high value guests, and building meaningful guest experiences.


Stewardship

  • Engage donors where appropriate to strengthen connection to mission through Club tours, personal visits, calls, correspondence, and invitation to events

  • Create stewardship plans to include personal outreach upon donation, create meaningful acknowledgment letters and printed materials to engage donors including newsletters and annual reports.

  • Find strategies to recognize donors to honor contributions.

  • Support social media and web-site design to mimic annual cases and appeals. 

Strategic Planning

  • In support of Vice President of Resource Development, carry out assigned components of RD strategic plan for single and multiple-year resource development efforts.

  • Annually evaluate campaign with the Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Resource Development, identifying strategy and opportunity to improve results. 

Board Development

  • Support Chief Executive Officer and board members by providing donor data reports as requested.  

  • Work with individual board members for campaign support and to identify new donor prospects and key relationships to strengthen donor connections.  

  • Educate, encourage and support board members to participate in solicitation of donor prospects. 


Resource Management

  • Develop, implement and monitor annual campaign budget, controlling expenditures within budget.

  • Invoice donors in timely fashion for campaign pledges.   

  •  Provide necessary documentation for timely donor acknowledgement. 

  • Implement best practices for fundraising activities and positive donor relationships, ensuring the Boys & Girls Club brand is protected.

Marketing & Public Relations 

  • Work with marketing department to prepare annual marketing strategies and content for annual campaign, increase visibility of club activities and good public relations for administration and local clubs, ensuring all meet BGCA print material standards to build public trust. Write compelling case statements and campaign stories for publication and promotion.

  •  Promote visibility of Club activities and mission for campaign contributors. 

  •  Prepare and promote donor highlights, quotes, stories where appropriate, with donor permission.  

Relationships:

  • Internal: Maintain oral and written contact with Chief Executive Officer, board, Vice President of Resource Development, staff peers, and volunteers for the purpose of exchange of information to provide progress reports regarding annual campaign. 

  • External: Maintain oral and written contact with other agency development staff, business leaders, strategic community groups, prospective funding sources and the media for the purpose of exchange of information and ideas for the purpose of fundraising in annual campaigns. 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Bachelors or associate degree from an accredited college or university in related field.

  • A minimum of five years proven track record of success in the field of annual campaigns, donor relationships, sales, individual & corporate giving, marketing campaigns, donor data management.

  • Demonstrated successful teamwork experience. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local club staff and RD staff. 

  • Demonstrated success at goal setting and working independently. 

  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and sources of fundraising for non-profit agencies.  Face to face fundraising, sales calls, creating marketing materials and strategies, mission objectives, policies, programs and procedures of non-profit youth development services.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and internal/external customer service skills using diplomacy and tact.

  • Excellent oral, written and technology skills including Windows, Internet, Microsoft Suite, Zoom, or other virtual platforms, and Google platform. 

  • Proven experience in CRM, donor database applications, or related software.

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record, consistent access to

a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage. 

  • Ability to earn and maintain mandatory CPR and First Aid certification

  • Ability to successfully pass a drug test and criminal background check. 

Physical Requirements/ Work Environment:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents. 

  • Ability to write reports and correspondence, effectively operate computers and phone system. Ability to clearly and concisely exchange/ receive ideas, facts, technical information from others. 

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to lead and conduct tours in buildings and school sites, including those only having stair access. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee is required to operate a motor vehicle. Travel away from office to clubs, donors or other venues within or outside Snohomish County is required  

  • Work environment may include traditional office environment, virtual, local club environment, noisy working conditions at events, deadlines, multiple tasks, work may include early mornings, late evenings or some weekends tied to attending and/ or working at special events, donor meetings, or hitting deadlines. 

  • Must be able to maintain confidential donor information and act with integrity and professionalism in representing the organization core values. Patience and ability to work calmly under pressure and deadlines. Listening and checking before acting. Conflict management, finding solutions to problems. Work with a variety of personalities and temperaments.
