Position Summary 

Greenwich House is seeking a strategic and mission-driven leader to serve as the next Director of Youth Services (YS). This full-time position carries responsibility for setting the vision, strategy, and overall management of programs serving children and teens ages 3–16. These include after-school enrichment, summer and holiday camps, sports leagues, and a range of community and private events designed to inspire and engage young people.

The Director of Youth Services will provide strong and thoughtful leadership, ensuring that all programs are safe, enriching, and impactful. In this role, you will guide the development and delivery of high-quality programming while maintaining effective operations and cultivating a positive environment for staff and participants alike. A key aspect of this position will be fostering strong communication and meaningful engagement with school partners, families, and community stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and extend the reach of Youth Services. As a member of Greenwich House’s program leadership team, you will contribute to organizational strategy and ensure that youth programming remains responsive to community needs while pursuing opportunities for growth and innovation.

Primary Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Development

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and growth of youth programs, including after school, summer and holiday camps, and the Greenwich Village Girls Basketball League.
  • Design and refine program offerings to provide engaging, creative, and age-appropriate experiences for children and teens.
  • Support staff in delivering high-quality activities that encourage learning, exploration, and positive social development.
  • Use youth development and restorative practices to build a safe, supportive environment and address behavioral challenges constructively.
  • Explore new opportunities to expand programming and strengthen Greenwich House’s role in serving the community.

Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee the daily operations of all Youth Services programs to ensure safe, welcoming, and efficient environments.
  • Ensure appropriate management of enrollment, attendance tracking, program scheduling, and facility use.
  • Ensure all staff meet clearance and background requirements and that programs remain in full compliance with Department of Health regulations. Assist Human Resources in ensuring all hiring and onboarding processes meet compliance mandates.
  • Supervise administrative functions including payroll, timesheets, invoicing, and vendor payments.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure timely payment of contracts and vouchers and maintain fiscal accuracy across all accounts.
  • Manage and maintain all required licensure and certifications for program operations.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor the Youth Services leadership team.
  • Provide regular coaching, goal setting, and performance feedback to staff.
  • Organize monthly team meetings and seasonal training sessions to strengthen skills and build staff community.
  • Cultivate a positive, collaborative culture that supports staff success and professional growth.

Fiscal & Strategic Management

  • Ensure the financial sustainability of Youth Services through effective budgeting, resource allocation, and program evaluation.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and the executive leadership team regarding program outcomes, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with other Greenwich House programs to create connections and expand impact.
  • Drive innovation and long-term growth in afterschool and youth programming and work with development to identify and apply for funding.

Community & Family Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, families, and local organizations.
  • Maintain open and ongoing communication with parents and caregivers through newsletters, phone calls, and in-person meetings.
  • Represent Greenwich House Youth Services at community events and on relevant committees.
  • Promote programs to expand participation and deepen engagement across the neighborhood.

Direct Program Oversight: After-School Programs

  • Oversee the management and operations of afterschool programs, ensuring quality engaging activities and a safe environment in response to the needs of the children, parents and school.
  • Ensures effective supervision of all staff members, including activity leaders, instructors, administrative assistants, coaches, and commissioner. 
  • Establishes and maintains quality community partners in response to program needs. 
  • Develop and update program activities that balance recreation, arts, academics, and social development.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive space that reflects Greenwich House’s mission of community and creativity.

Qualifications

  • BA in Education or related field or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum of two years as an educator of school age children.
  • Experience in training and mentoring youth workers. Supervisory experience with teenage/college-aged staff.
  • Understands and utilizes youth development framework.
  • Willing to modify plans and behavior when necessary to meet a goal.
  • Must be a self-starter, working well without close supervision.
  • Must be able to establish priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks.
  • Committed to maintaining a high standard of ethics, conduct and organization policies in job related activities.
