Position Description
As a Consultant, you will lead a lane of work or be a Project Leader for a small project with lower complexity/stake. Consultants regularly own tasks and create deliverables, delegating to others as appropriate. Consultants are growing in their understanding of project financials and support of business development efforts (e.g., support business capture efforts) and contribute to proposal development. They are expected to regularly manage up with senior members of their team and leverage senior staff expertise to collaborate on deliverables. Consultants successfully manage a small project work lane or project financials and demonstrate effective client relationship management.
Requirements
What You’ll Do
- Manage project lanes or small projects to completion by scoping tasks and managing resources (i.e., time, budget, people) effectively; forecast and track lane/project financial performance and contribute to invoicing reviews and approvals
- Develop and manage the production of high-quality client-facing deliverables with established project quality standards, and Solution-based products for other team members to finalize and/or approve; demonstrate strong attention to detail and effective written communication skills
- Support the design, coordination, and logistics of external and internal meetings; apply active listening skills and contribute to knowledge capture during meetings
- Facilitate client meetings to achieve identified, desired outcomes
- Develop meaningful and trusted professional relationships with clients; serve as the point of contact for one or more clients in a lane or project
- Participate in business development and networking opportunities, proposal creation and coordination
- Onboard, train, and develop junior team members
- Manage increasingly complex assignments and multiple tasks/client deliverables (and competing priorities) at once
- Support and/or lead research, data gathering, and analysis to inform the development of client solutions; synthesize and present results clearly
- Showcase critical thinking skills to evaluate needs, make recommendations, and partner with team members to refine thinking and approaches to client challenges
- Demonstrate sensitivity to teammate and client strengths and weaknesses to create a sense of belonging and to value individual contributions
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of four years of professional work experience, preferably in management consulting or another professional service or client-facing environment
- Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance and/or a positive suitability determination by completing necessary background check investigations to perform client work
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites in the surrounding DC and Baltimore metro areas; occasional travel outside of these regions could be expected (5%)
- Critical thinking/problem-solving skills, attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills, and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Flexible and adaptable mindset to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced, high-stakes client environments
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States, now and in the future, without the need for company (The Clearing) visa sponsorship now or in the future
- Desired skills, experiences, and certifications: change management, strategic planning, strategic communication, program management, and/or organizational design experience; PMP and/or Change Management certification (ex.: Prosci)
Compensation
The projected salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $100,000 annually. Actual compensation and starting salaries are determined based on various factors, including the education, experience, knowledge, skills, certifications, and clearance level of the candidate, and internal equity. Once at The Clearing, movement through pay bands is based on performance. Base-annual salary is just one component of The Clearing’s total compensation philosophy and approach. Physical and Mental Requirements
While performing duties of this job, an employee may be required to perform any, or all of the following: Attend meetings in and out of the office, travel (sometimes extensively); occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing); ability to effectively use computers and other electronic and standard office equipment; and occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is primarily sedentary and involves sitting for several hours at a time. Occasionally walking, climbing stairs, and standing occur in this role. Additionally, this job requires certain mental demands, including the ability to use judgment, withstand moderate amounts of stress, and maintain attention to detail.
