Facilitates the surgery schedule by scheduling surgeries in an accurate manner.  Maintains a congenial, professional and confidential attitude.

 

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  •      Schedules all OR and PAT cases/visits.
  • Coordinates the surgery schedule, under the direction of the Department Director and Coordinator, assuring appropriate timing and resources are available.
  • Functions as communication focus during emergency situations, stat requests, and orders.
  • Records and delivers messages for patients and staff.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and functional working environment.
  • Completes necessary worksheets for the nursing staff.
  • Accurately enters patient information into the computer.
  • Communicates all pertinent patient care information and general environmental information to the OR staff.
  • Contacts sales reps and appropriate personnel for surgeries.
  • Shows efficiency, courtesy, and professionalism when answering the telephone; always identifies self.
  • Formulates call schedule and distributes surgery schedules to appropriate departments.
  • Pleasantly receives, greets, and directs patients, visitors, physicians, physician offices and hospital personnel arriving on, or calling the patient care unit.
  • Receives requests from patients, families, physician offices and refers requests to nursing staff or appropriate hospital personnel.
  • When appropriate, answers patients’ lights.  Refers requests to nursing staff or appropriate hospital personnel.
  • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials, supplies, and equipment inventory on assigned unit.
  • Records staff meeting minutes.
  • Scans employee educational information into computer.
  • Maintains certification notebook for departmental employees.
  • Assists with Interquel criteria.
  • Transports patients to surgery as needed.
  • Organizes own time and activities, under the direction of the Department Director and Charge nurse, to effectively prioritize daily work.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the needs of surgery department.
  • Identifies need for change and initiates change, under the director of the Department Director, to enhance working conditions.
  • Respects the rights of individual patients, family, and co-workers.
  • Utilizes resources effectively.
  • Assists other staff when possible.
  • Is economical in the use of supplies and equipment.
  • Remains composed and directive during emergency and stressful situations.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties.  Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
  • Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies.  Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.  Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times;   Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
