Hiring Salary Range:  $54,764-$59,233 Full Salary Range$45,017.00- $80,557.00

Each Botanical Gardens Supervisor coordinates staff to most effectively and efficiently maintain the horticultural standards expected of a public garden. The supervisor should constantly evaluate maintenance standards and procedures to meet future garden development and the needs of other parks facilities. This person will be expected to have a working knowledge of various aspects of horticulture and landscape maintenance including design, planting, pruning, irrigation, pest/disease management, and the operation of a full range of landscaping equipment including dump truck, front end loader, lawnmower, compact utility loader, chain saw and string trimmer.

This position will be responsible for administering human resources policies for their crew (timecard, leave, evaluations, hiring, termination, training, etc). The supervisor helps plan and manage facility budgets, including purchasing supplies and equipment. This person will work alongside non-profit partners including Greensboro Beautiful, manage numerous volunteers, coordinate events in the garden, manage projects and contractors, and ensure the safety of staff and the public. The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Horticulture, Turf Management, Forestry, Botany or related field 
  • 4to6 years prior experience in horticultural operations focused on education, botanical gardens, exhibit areas, parks, and public grounds, or in the commercial market.
  • Or High School Diploma/GED with 8 years prior experience in horticultural operations focused on education, botanical gardens, exhibit areas, parks, and public grounds, or in the commercial market
  • Valid driver's license
  • NC Pesticide Applicator’s License (must obtain within 6 months) 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Plant Professional
  • Landscape design and/or landscape construction experience
  • Experience providing educational programming
  • Outdoor event planning experience
  • Prior supervisory experience 

Other Qualifications

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday;  6:30am-3 pm (occasional weekends and evenings)
