Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Director of Marketing will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing plans for men’s and women’s basketball; appropriate marketing strategies for other sports; and general marketing for the Department of Athletics. The emphasis of this individual will be on revenue generation through ticket sales and other innovative ideas; fan experience; licensing and brand equity; and strategic advertising.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Division I sports at St. Joe’s to generate attendance and revenue, promote St. Joe’s brand, and create a great atmosphere for competition. 

    • Create and execute annual basketball marketing plans utilizing social media, email, and other digital and non-digital marketing opportunities designed to generate revenue and attendance. 

    • Create and execute annual marketing plans for sports other than basketball, using a variety of digital and non-digital means. 

      • Focus on students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and crossover fans. 

      • Include emails, fan fest, table tents, game watches. 

  • Work collaboratively with the St. Joe’s Athletics external team, including tickets, communications, corporate partnerships, advancement, and others to help the department meet revenue-related goals. 

  • Draft copy for all ads, and work with internal or third party graphic designers to create the ads.

    • Obtain and oversee graphic designers (if applicable)

  • Create and implement an annual promotions calendar for the men's and women's basketball season.

    • Work with Van Wagner to procure student and other giveaways.

    • Oversee design schedule poster, magnets (if applicable). 

    • Work with Athletics Development on annual giveaways for season ticket and Hawk Athletic Club members.

    • Procure national anthem singers, halftime performers, and others to enhance game day experience.

      • In conjunction with Athletics Business Operations, manage contracts and payments of such individuals or groups.

    • Recruit, train and manage student game day workers/interns 

  • Participate in execution of special events such as Big 5 Classic, post-season events, and NCAA Championship events hosted by St. Joe’s. 

  • Provide a game day basketball experience that assists our competitive and revenue goals, and serves as a showcase for Saint Joseph's University.

    • Prepare dynamic scripts that l have fans leaving Hagen Arena saying "that was an AMAZING experience."

    • Work with content personnel to create intro videos.

    • Organize internal media “car wash” for video board assets.

    • Work with content / broadcast on video board graphics, etc. 

    • Produce or otherwise support the in-game fan experience on game days by communicating with Broadcast, cheer, dance, pep band, Hawk, DJ, Van Wagner, and others.

    • Provide innovative ideas to continue to improve the experience for all fans and, in turn, for our student-athletes.

  • Serve as the liaison to the 54th Airborne, Student Life, Student Senate and other student organizations.

    • Work collaboratively with students, create and implement strategies.

    • Coordinate student travel and tickets for regular and postseason away and neutral site games.

  • Oversee the University's nationally-renowned cheer and dance teams; the growing Pep Band; and the legendary Hawk mascot program.

    • Supervise the part-time coaches of each program, including hiring and professional development.

    • Oversee the Hawk mascot tryout program  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in athletics marketing, including game day production

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to lead and develop student and full-time employees

  • Great customer service among a diverse group of fans, students, staff and partners

  • Organization and attention to detail

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

  • The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background check

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Occasional need to lift, move and otherwise prepare equipment and facilities in preparation for practice, competition and special events

  • Position requires frequent evening and weekend hours
