Now, we’re looking for a Mid or Senior Boss Designer to join us in creating memorable and intense boss encounters for our upcoming titles. This is a hands-on design role where you’ll take ownership of boss experiences from initial concept to final implementation, using Unreal Engine. If you’re deeply passionate about combat design, love crafting high-impact encounters, and enjoy collaborating across disciplines, this role is for you. 


What You’ll Do: 

• Design, implement, iterate, and polish compelling boss encounters in Unreal Engine. 

• Own the boss design process from start to finish, working within the game's creative direction and combat design framework. 

• Work closely with design leadership to ensure boss fights are fun, challenging, balanced, and aligned with overall gameplay vision. 

• Collaborate with animators, programmers, and artists to bring boss behaviors and visuals to life. 

• Use Unreal Blueprints and proprietary state machines to implement combat logic and animation behavior. 

• Tune boss pacing, challenge, and mechanics for a high-quality player experience. 

• Provide and receive feedback across the team, iterating rapidly while maintaining high quality. 

• Troubleshoot, debug, and refine boss AI and behavior as needed throughout production. 


Who You Are: 

• You’re passionate about boss design and high-stakes combat encounters. 

• You have experience designing and implementing combatants in Unreal using Blueprints and state machines. 

• You understand animation fundamentals and how to sync gameplay systems to animation timing. 

• You’re a strong communicator and collaborator, capable of working cross-discipline to bring ideas to life. 

• You pay strong attention to detail and take pride in delivering polished, responsive combat. 

• You understand modern combat design techniques and what makes an encounter memorable and engaging. 

• You are proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently while staying aligned with project goals. 


Bonus XP (Not Required, But Nice to Have): 

• Animation implementation or technical animation experience. 

You’ve shipped at least one action game title. 

• Background in combat systems design, especially boss AI and player readability. 

• Experience with encounter scripting or narrative-driven boss fights. 

• Familiarity with creature or humanoid enemy design principles. 

• Comfort with gameplay tuning and balancing. 


The responsibilities listed above are not intended to be exhaustive. The selected candidate may be expected to perform other duties as reasonably required. This position may initially be offered on a temp-to-hire basis. 


Pay range: $70,000-$85,000 


Title level and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
